Very poor build quality
First off let me say that the seller that I purchased from has been Top Notch. I have asked a lot of questions and inquired after this computer on many occasions and they have always been responsive. With that said I received this computer, a refurbished model from CNN computing, on Tuesday. When I open the box I discovered that part of the front of the computer housing had separated. I snapped it back together. Within about 15 minutes I noticed a number of issues with my laptop. First off there was a large Speck of debris right in front of the camera lens underneath the plastic lens. I also noticed that many of the screws on the back case were stripped out. In addition to this the keyboard on the right hand side was very spongy. When you typed on it you could see the entire keyboard and top of the computer Flex significantly under normal keystroke pressures. I also noticed that when you are using the mouse pad that it makes a lot of noise every time you touch it sort of like a clicking noise. I noticed that the mouse pad is loose so that when you press on it the entire mousepad depresses not like you're trying to make a right click or left click but the cop of the mouse pad depresses when you rest your finger on it. I contacted the seller and explained the issues I was having with the new laptop. He offered to refund my money but suggested that I contact Dell for warranty service. I contact Adell and spoke with 3 different individuals. The first individual Rajiv. He told me I could send it in for repair but that it would be 2 weeks turnaround time. He then put me on hold and came back to tell me that he suggested that I return it to the seller from whom I purchased it. He put me on hold again and then came back and said that the strip screws and the other issues with the computer were most likely related to The Cellar from whom I purchased it and that if I sent it in to Del they would charge me for the repairs as customer damage. I was flabbergasted by this response. I had had my computer less than one day and it came secured in a Dell box wrapped and taped. The Dell representative made excuses for this stating that the reseller must have opened the box tampered with the computer and carefully repackaged it. I asked for the Dell representative name which he gave to me hurriedly and then continued talking telling me that he was going to transfer me to somebody else. When I asked for his name and for him to spell it he became very belligerent and angry and hung up on me. I got in touch with customer service and explain my situation. They apologized and said I needed to talk to technical support. Technical support then told me I needed to talk to customer service. I was extremely frustrated by this point and told them I was unhappy with the service I received and I would get in touch with the reseller to see what I could work out. I contacted the seller and he offered several Solutions. As of right now I am very dissatisfied with Dell despite owning two other of their computers. The build quality and service has generally been good but for some reason this go round and the customer service agent seem to have an agenda and that it was based on the fact that this was a certified refurbished computer and that it was not purchased from Dell this seem to trigger the animosity from the Dell representative. I am working to try to find a resolution for the issues with the laptop and will update the post when that has been resolved.
