so not very appropriate for my 4-year-old daughter who loves all things pink and sweet and lovely
The illustrations are gorgeous - one of the reasons I purchased this book. Very similar to the original Brothers Grimm version, so not very appropriate for my 4-year-old daughter who loves all things pink and sweet and lovely. When I pick books for reading with her, I'm looking for a few sentences per page. This is not that kinda book - LOTS of sentences, and a long story. I summarize the book through the pictures, leaving out the scary parts. But we have enjoyed looking at the pictures often. Again, a beautifully illustrated book.

Great condition!
The book arrived in better shape -- like new -- than I expected for a very good condition book. Thank you!

so beautiful!
my daughter got this a year ago (when she turned 4) and enjoyed it then, seems to enjoy it more now. the pictures are so beautiful. i love to read this to her and enjoy the images., some of the witch pictures are a little scary (my daughter said about one of them "let's just call this picture hate because that's what it is!" -- but it was, the witch was hateful, so i think the imagery worked). well written and beautiful. 4-5 year old loves to have it read to her. not sure of reading level for those reading to themselves.

Stunning Illustrations, Scary Story Line a Bit Too Advanced for Young Children
The illustrations in this book are beautiful - the book has a very charming appearance. However, I have to disagree with the listed audience age range of 5-10 years, based on the fairly frightening aspects of the story. (And I am not one to sugarcoat the original fairy tales...the originals are great, I think!) Perhaps the child-friendly, whimsical illustrations actually fool the reader into expecting a little "glossing over" of the not-so-child-friendly parts of the story line. Again, a beautiful book in appearance, but I believe the age range should be more like 8-11 years.

Sweet illustrations! Love it for my little girl.
Tangled came out, and we *love* that movie, but I wanted to make sure my daughter was exposed to the REAL story of Rapunzel based on Brothers Grim. While I feel the story could have been written a little better, and included more of the original storyline, the illustrations are fantastic and girly. I'm picky about how stories are written, but I'm even pickier about illustrations. I'd give the story four stars, and the illustrations six stars. That comes out to five stars :) This book is a keeper, if only for its pictures.

Charming and wonderfully illustrated
I bought this book for my then almost three-year-old granddaughter because it is one of my own favorite childhood stories. Although she did not have the patience at the time to sit and listen to every word on every page, she immediately gleaned enough of the story to want to buy a Repunzel doll, a Repunzel Halloween costume, and the movie, _Tangled_. My granddaughter is three anad a half now and wants to read more and more of the words. She loves the illustrations, also.

daughter's favorite since she was 4
I have several rare editions of Rapunzel but this one, which we kept getting from our town library, is my 6 y.o. daughter's favorite since she was 4. I have bought it for her for Christmas, she will be delighted to have her own copy.

Beautiful Book!
I ordered this book a few months ago for my three-year old daughter and I am so glad that I did. While this story is listed as being appropriate for older children, my daughter loves it and easily follows along as I read it aloud. What sets this version of Rapunzel apart from others is it's glorious illustrations. Each page is graced with incredible artwork that is beautiful and feminine. I highly recommend this book!
