Q: Do I need to attach the metal wiring armature to the shroud and, if so, how do I do this?

Hello, the earth lead connects to the aluminium ‘armature’ and this is your electrical safety connection. The armature fastens to the inner ring at the same place as either of the two device securing clips. Simply hold it in place as you squeeze the spring onto the small ‘lugs’ & hold it in place. The outer ring (‘shroud’- I think) is held by the two earthed clips as you push the fitting up, thus the whole fitting is earthed and therefore safe to touch. Hope this helps.

It comes in 2 parts - outer plus GU10 fitting. It covers any diameter from 65 - 125mm

Q: Do these come with longer springs to put on lighs designed for a smaller hole?

In not entirely sure if I understand your question but I used them because whomever fitted the lights in our kitchen had slightly oversized the holes so the lights fitted would occasionally drop out and hang on their wires. These lamps were wide enough externally to cover the holes, yet small enough in the centre to easily fit. The springs are the full length of the radius to the outside edge and therefore clamped around the “too large” hole in the ceiling. They’re a bit of a fiddle to get together and in place but once they’re there they stay put and look great. I hope that helps.
