awsome game!!!
this game is one of those rare gems that u care about the characters, for any one of them can go at any moment in battle. deep moving storyline, very good animated graphics. great for the RPG lover, for you can upgrade your squad and vehicles. this game has a lot of re-playability to it. I highly recommend this title, and the ones before it, for this title has the new ' grenader' class added to it to help level the war playing field. great military game that will keep you on your toe's with strategy. not only do you have to shoot your way out, you have to strategize your way out of situations that you might not see coming!

Best-est everrrr
This is such a great game. Never played any of the other ones and it didn't matter since it has a stand alone story. The story is actually good unlike most games nowadays and the strategy rpg game play is fresh and unique to me. They slowly add new elements to the strategy and new tools to use consistently throughout the game, keeping the gameplay fresh. I'm overall extremely satisfied with this game and the price you can't beat. I had bought it for $24 dollars and paid the 4 dollar one day shipping and i did indeed get it the next day. Thanks Amazon! 5 stars!

GOTY Material
This game is great. With excellent voice actor, a great art style, well fleshed-out characters, and a rock-solid battle system, this was the best JRPG I've played in 2018. I would even argue that it is as good as Marvel's Spiderman on PS4. All without a single microtransaction in its bone. If you even have just a passing interest in JRPGs, you should check this game out.

Play With A Guide
I really want to like VC 4 more than I do.It's a neat mix of fps and tactical rpg, the characters are likeable, and the gameplay is an interesting challenge except for a single problem. You won't win missions the first time you play them. This doesn't manifest until you're a few hours into the game, but by your sixth or so mission, you'll start running into situations where you had to know the enemy's unit placement and scripted events before you started. If you didn't, I'm sorry. You'll get partway in, abruptly discover you made the wrong choices based on no information, and lose.A mortar from a unit you had no reason to know existed will come out of the sky and one-shot your lead character, or enemies will spawn and immediately get a turn as part of a scripted event, and they'll just walk through your army three-tapping people.VC 4 is *extremely* attacker-friendly. Unless the defender has been buffed, and as long as the attacker doesn't miss, if they're using the right weapon, they'll kill. Doubling down on this, turns are a string of actions taken by a single side. So you can spam the same character a bunch of times (with fewer movement points each time) and fire on things until your ammo and actions run out.The AI is frankly less abusive with this than they could be, but that doesn't matter too much when you're running by a patch of grass for the first time and an enemy unit materializes out of it and melts you instantly, or when a group of tanks and soldiers spawns, uses a command ability you had no reason to believe existed, and marches their army through a wall of fire to flank and one-shot half your named soldiers. On top of this, you'll sort of need to research some of the game mechanics to figure out how and why they're behaving the way they do. For example, when you go to shoot, the game has you manually aim your shot and gives you bonus damage (that you need if you want to kill) for hitting critical locations. Unknown to you, it *also* rolls a die to see if your shot goes where you put it or scatters. And its calculation of how many shots are needed to kill (which it displays instead of showing your miss chance) is sometimes wrong. And none of this takes into account obstacles in the environment when sometimes intercept your shots with their bounding boxes in a way that doesn't make a whole lot of sense visually.Basically, play with a guide. It'll ruin the challenge and immersion, but you won't have to constantly repeat missions. VC 4's a good game, but playing it correctly requires you to know what's going to happen on each story map before you encounter it.

An Epic SRPG!!
I highly recommend this game or should I say the series as a whole. It is the thinking mans rpg even though more or less the whole genre can be thought of as this. As for myself although I owned the original installment first I had actually played through VCII beforehand. I haven't had any issues thus far playing somewhat in the wrong order. I suggest this title for fans of others such as Fire Emblem, Jeanne DArc and the like. Although the gameplay is a bit different it kinda does have a similar feel. The only thing I was disappointed with was I had to purchase the Squad 7 dlc separately. For whatever reason I had thought it came with this version. Still it was a great Christmas gift. There are endless possibilities with the VC world as far as sequels & prequels go. For example, there could be scenarios pertaining to the first Europan war. Or even perhaps our familiar characters involved in a future war. Im currently making my way through both VC1 and VC4 simultaneously at this time predominately being the control scheme is essentially the same. Also, wishful thinking hopefully Sega realizes its never too late to remake or rerelease VC3 being it never really had that full worldwide launch.

Fun Game - Wait for a Discount
I got the game for $20 from a random sale on Amazon. It's fun and sometimes challenging and I'm sure I got over 40 hours out of it when going through the main campaign and a good number of side missions without save-scumming. It does have some difficulty spikes and can be frustrating/borderline unfair at times, but that's usually how these games go.If you played and enjoyed the original on PS3, you'll enjoy this one as well.

More of the Same Tactical Action as the Original
If you liked the first Valkyria Chronicles, you will enjoy this one. It is pretty much identical. I love the art style, but I think they could have upgraded the visuals a LITTLE bit somehow, but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game at all.Great strategy, and a good story (although sitting through all the talking gets a bit tedious...they could have gone a little lighter on some of the dialogue between battles). I am absolutely loving this game and have put many hours into it so far, and I'm only on chapter 13 (I guess there are 18 chapters + post game stuff), so you are getting great bang for your buck as well.Highly recommended to turned-based strategy fans, and fans of Japanese animation & storytelling.

Great game, must buy if you're a fan of the series
If you've played the first game it's more of the same for the most part, but what's new definitely makes it the better game, between the story and new characters to the new gameplay elements.
