Excellent product but install and cleaning are problematic
Cooktop looks good and performs well.Installation was difficult:* Had to use two 3/8" black iron street elbows to offset the regulator around an obstruction in the cabinet. This possibility should be documented in a section in the product description.* Hold-down clamps are poorly designed.* Had to buy heat-reflective tape before installation - instructions specify Scotch brand #425 or #427. This should have been noted in the product description as above, or a 10 foot length should have been supplied with the cook top AND listed in the "Customers also bought" list and annotated as required for installation.* Instructions are very specific about cleaning supplies. They should be noted in the product description on the web page, with links to purchase them.* Documentation does not cover what to do if you get a spill large enough to flood through the burner orifices and into the case. I hope I never need that info...

Great cooktop. Some caviats
Great cooktop. Got on sale, great value. Love the illuminated dials. Some cons but not dealbreakers:1. cleaning is not the easiest around the star burners2. burner power feels lower than rated. I bilieve the smaller pots waste some of the burning power, because even the smaller burners are large for them3. Drafts (or a downdraft exhaust) also makes the burn less focused, taking away efficiency. Noticed it takes forever to get boilong with downdraft on

Superb device with unknown maintenance duration. Worth it.
Great value for the money, hopefully it never breaks so I don't have to find out of stock parts. I think this is worth the risk. It works perfectly.

Poor quality control
3 of the 5 control valves leaked gas, now waiting 10 weeks for warranty service and without a usable stove.

Nice to have such good control over a wide range of cooking.
The extra low simmer control is great! The large high intensity burner is great for risotto and sautéing mushrooms. Slow cooking a tomato sauce is really easy. Clean up is easy.

The grates looked awful after just a couple of uses
I have had this cooktop in the past and was happy with it but when we re-did the kitchen we replaced it. The new one looked beat up after just a few uses. The paint on the grates comes off very quickly and after replacing them a few times Thermador said it was just normal wear and tear. Very disappointed with the quality of a high end product.

Bad engineering
I bought this cooktop not on Amazon. I worked pretty well for less than 6 years. After it one burner stopped to work. It required to open a cooktop lid to change the part. But to open the lid you have to unscrew the gas tubes (they are made from stainless steel), two of them (most used) were stuck. No technician wonted to do such job mentioning that it could damage a lot and as a result, cost a lot. I searched on YouTube, this is a common problem. One minor drawback is not easy cleaning. The new model SGSX365TS (FS was discontinued, but it is really the same) has gas tubes made from brass. It's necessary to find out how they behave in similar situation.

Love this cooktop!
I was shocked to see the negative reviews. I can only think it was older models. If the cast iron plate that sits over the burner isn't postitioned correctly the flame flutters so maybe this is one of their problems? The only critique I have is that it can be hard to clean due to the star shape at the base of the star burner. A Mr. Clean magic eraser works well for the general amber haze & a ScotchBrite for the heavier stuff. Unless you are a martial artist and train nukite by driving your fingers into a bucket of sand, the scotchbrite can be hard of the fingers, so use the handle of a wooden spoon to scrub in the corners. Everything else about the cooktop I love and ratings elsewhere show it to be the top performer. Consumer Reports rates this #1. The simmer function is great. I don"t have any problem with it taking too long to heat up. Seems pretty fast to me. I had an old gas stove before & this is faster. As far as the racks being too high mentioned by another person, I do find some heat coming out from under the burners and burned a favorite oven mitt that was placed too close to the burner but I now know not to set my oven mitt as close as I used to with my old stove. I would say check out other reviews as well & don't hesitate to buy this unit. I love mine and I am a very picky and critical about what I own and am an avid cook.
