The Humax DTR-T2100 is a cutting-edge 500GB BT YouView Recorder Unit featuring dual tuners, allowing you to record multiple programs at once while providing access to a vast library of catch-up TV. Slick, well built, and easy to use
We own two old Humax PVRs which we have been very pleased with, but for streaming have relied on an Apple TV which whilst excellent lacks easy access to iPlayer and other catchup services. I was attracted to the YouView platform for its reported ease of use, and in this device it delivers. The unit is small, discrete, and quiet with a well designed and quality-feeling remote, that can be programmed to also turn the TV on and off and control volume and AV inputs. The YouView guide is great - you can rapidly skip though the channels to pick what you want to watch and review the past week where clicking on the programme name plays it back via the appropriate catchup player such as iPlayer or More4. Even better, simply pressing the search button and starting to type a programme name brings it up to stream if available. This almost makes the guide and the various catchup apps redundant. Apps are the only place where the system is a little weak. There are the usual players such as iPlayer and Demand5 as well as the milkshake! app for kids programmes from channel 5 such as Peppa Pig, plus a Dave player. Otherwise there is NowTV from Sky but no Netflix, Amazon, or other streaming services. As BT and TalkTalk are major share holders in YouView I wonder whether other apps will arrive. It seems that the BBC and others are reducing their involvement in the platform although it seems a fairly safe bet with so many BT and TalkTalk subscribers. Obviously buying this box as a standalone item you don't get the BT channels but it otherwise works fine via other broadband connections which can be cheaper.I understand that the first generation YouView boxes were a little sluggish, but this one is fast and works well. If you are in the market for a PVR to record TV, watch the free to air HD channels, and stream the free Catchup services then you won't go too far wrong with this box.Update 01/09/14: There are a few points I would add now having owned this box for a while:1) The standout feature is the excellent and fast universal search which allows you to search the OnDemand content as well as the EPG for the programme you are looking for. It means however that I almost never use the EPG to look at previous days for programmes, so the much vaunted ability to look back 7 days in the EPG is not actually that useful.2) You can only rewind live TV, not move back to a specific time by selecting it using the arrow keys as on other Humax PVRs. This is much slower and I would suggest a missing feature.3) YouView development outside BT and TalkTalk subscribers seems almost non-existent. I think BBC etc have turned their attention to a FreeView Connect alternative which will be included on some new TVs. This means that YouView while functional now may not gain new services which is disappointing.

Great for terrestial recordings, app implementation not brilliant
Terrific value (I bought new from market place). The HD quality is great. Recordings are perfect. The reduction of one star is because even with a 30MBs connection, e.g. the iPlayer and 4All apps do not compete for speed and quality with e.g. Roku or Chromecast. I do not have a BT subscription so I don't know if my connection is somehow crippled - I doubt it, I'm just looking for an explanation. So if you want to use this for recording terrestial TV, it is perfect. If you want it for internet connectivity, get a Roku.--Update end July 2017: still working great.-- Update January 2018Bought a second one, as I gave the original to my Mother, as her PVR (not Humax) packed up.Just as good as the first.

Highly Recommended
The Humax DTR T2100 arrived as quoted an well packaged. The unit is truly "Plug and go" and I was up and working within minutes of its arrival. The YouView Recorder is well documented and I have quickly explored almost all its features.I highly recommend this Item and it reflect Good Value for money.Update:After using the Humax DTR T2100 for a month or so and still Highly Recommend it, they have made it smaller than earlier models by moving the PSU to the Plug that also has a much lower operating temperature.

Ok for straight tv, but that is it.
It's ok of sorts but not as good as I hoped. The 7 day catchup is not working now.

Super piece of kit.
Recently got rid of Virginmedia TiVo box and cable after months of problems with V-M Broadband. The TiVo box was much hyped by the company, but found to be very disappointing, temperamental, and not at all user friendly. No longer get some of the channels offered on cable but the Humax box by comparison is more versatile, user friendly, and so far, reliable. Recommended for all long suffering TiVo users.

Good so far but be aware of hidden costs.
Seems to be ok so far, one or two setting up issues but nothing serious, working on powerline units. Only thing I did not realise before I bought it is that to receive any catch-up or iPlayer service apart from BBC an additional monthly subscription of £5 is required by BT. (I have a basic broadband and phone service). I haven't done this yet, waiting to see if I really need it. User-friendly and really good picture quality.I'll update after I've used it for a bit longer.
