Best toy in our house on Christmas Day 2018
Brilliant toy. My son loves it (as did everyone else on Christmas Day ages 4-70+). Takes some getting used to putting it back to a car, but easy enough for a 4 year old to master.

You need the little cars to play this game. Think Pokemon, Yugioh and transformers all rolled into one.
***If you want to play the Mecard game as it is intended, or enjoy Mega Dracha to the full, you will need to buy at least one little car for each player. Mega Dracha isn't an essential part of the game, but he sure is fun anyway***The Mecard range of toys are actually part of a card game, played by rolling transforming cars over magnetic plastic cards - there are elements of Pokemon and Yugioh in it; like those two, this also has an accompanying cartoon. It started in South Korea, and could well be the next big collecting craze if it does half as well as those two. When you succeed in rolling the little Mecard vehicles over the magnetic cards, they transform into their animal/monster forms and catch the cards in their mouth (if you are accurate enough to get them to roll over the cards properly, that is!). Any failure to transform means no points scored. The numbers and colours on the cards work a bit like the Pokemon scoring system - the colour of the car determines which number they score; there is a turn-based structure to the game which is fairly complicated to explain, but quite easy to play once you've gone over it a couple of times. The main thing is to succeed in triggering the transformation. This big transforming creature - 'Mega Dracha' - is the largest of the Mecard toys, and although very dramatic looking, isn't actually an active part of the game when it's played, which is slightly disappointing! He is used as a launcher; when he's in his truck shape, you can unfurl his tail and use it as a ramp to roll the little transforming cars down. This makes him turn into a dragon with big extended wings. Rather importantly, ***you will need to buy a small Mecard to make this happen***I've got doubts about how much battering this toy will stand before bits fall off, but the children were more interested in just having fun with it rather than following the rules of the game. The little cards that come with it are important if you're going to play it properly, and they'll easily get lost if you're not careful. This toy is probably best gifted to someone already into Mecards, as it's non-essential to the gameplay. I would start with the actual small cars and work from there - unless you just fancy this as a cool looking transformer, that is.I rather like him; he comes in a big presentation box and will provide lots of fun possibilities in his own right - and let's face it, the kids were more into making up their own games. I'm hoping they'll get into it when they get more of the little cars. Sold separately - maybe it would have been good to include one with Dracha.

A focus-group toy from a focus-group TV show
"Mecard is a new action battle game based on the animated series. Follow the epic adventures of young hero Jason, who meets transforming alien cars called Mecardimals and gets thrust into an ancient war between three rival worlds!", says the blurb on the Mecard website. The reality is that this"Mechard Mega Dracha" figure is what happens when TV executives see a successful animated TV show, try and copy it without getting sued into bankrupcy, and licence the characters from the show to a toy manufacturer. Think Pokemon with vehicles, and you won't be too far off the mark. It's a fire truck that transforms into a dragon. Beautifully made, and nicely articulated, it seems a bit awkward at first, but it all folds together nicely, with positive clicks and without any alarming use of force being necessary. It's beautifully finished, there's no doubt about that. It's blooming enormous, too! The fire truck is a manageable 9" (23cm) but it exands into a prety large dragon that's about 20" (50cm) front to back. I have to admit, it's pretty impressive. When my lad first saw it in the packaging, he was pretty impressed.Play involves opening up the top of the fire truck (the top of the truck becoming a ramp) then rolling a Mecard vehicle, (not supplied), down the ramp, so it emerges from the belly of the now majestically unfolded Mega Dracha figure, rolls over a carefully placed Mecard card (supplied), whereupon the Mecard vehicle itself transforms into a Mecardimal. And then the battling can commence.Or not. It's *really* missing the Mecardimal vehicle/character, and without it, the Mega Dracha is not much fun. But frankly, it doesn't seem much fun with a Mecardimal figure either. It's just a big, cleverly-folding toy that's not much fun to play with. If your kid is into the show, buy a couple of Mecardimal figures instead. That said, right now it's on offer at under £17, which is pretty good value if you want to look like you've spent more on someone else's kid than you actually have. So you'll get a better value toy that's not much fun to play with. But there are *way* better toys you can buy for the £40 this toy usually costs.

Fun, great quality transformer toy
From fire engine to dragon and back again with a launch pad for cars ... all the selling points in one simple phrase! This is great quality and a fun toy for boys or girls who love transformers ... and who doesn't!?

Can transform without other Mecardimals
This is the first Mecardimal that my children have played with and I have to say it is a hit. This is a big fire truck that can instantly transform into a dragon by opening a ramp from the top of it and sliding a car down it (although not all cars work - it has to be one that fits in the gap and is strong enough to flick the lever). We have been able to do it using hot wheels cars as we don't have any other Mecardimals.Once a dragon putting it back to fire truck is simple. There are instructions on the box and my 8-year-old daughter can do it in 40 seconds. The toy reminds me of Screechers and Transformers except it seems to be solidly built whereas modern Transformers and Screechers seem a bit more flimsy. This is in spite of the box saying "some parts of the Dracha are made to detach if excessive force is applied and are designed to be reattached if separation occurs."My kids love it.
