I had dinner on the hot rocks on a cruise ship and thoroughly enjoyed it. They would be fun for a group dinner but since they're expensive, I only ordered two. My only complaint is that I can't get them hot enough to actually sear the meat/chicken/fish but I love the way the food stays hot. If you put food on the rock not fully cooked, you can then slice off pieces and cook it to the desired doneness. Place pieces of your side dishes next to the meat during the meal to heat them. Some put a little oil on the rock to prevent sticking, but the oil will spatter a bit so be careful. I'm still experimenting with the best way to sear meat before putting it on the rock without overcooking it. If you can make the meal in the oven, i.e. baked potato, roasted veggies and heat the rock while that's cooking, the meal prep is very easy. Clean up is simple but I usually do it the next morning so the rock is cool. Comes with a stainless tray to hold the rock, bamboo "tray" and a small white side dish which together makes a lovely presentation. Storage is easy but heavy (it's a rock)! Silicone gloves work fine for removing the hot rock from the oven. A little pre planning is necessary but if you like hot food these are great, fun and unusual.

Arrived on time. Heated up to 600+F on double gas burner. Cooked two pieces of salmon. Fun watching it cook on the table.Right now rating 3 since only used once. Not sure about durability. Price seems high but same stone as high end restaurant.Update: let stone cool to room temperature after using one time. There is a crack going most of the way across the stone and the crack can bee seen from both sides. Not so much for long life. I wonder if the stones could be heat tested before sending to identify weakness in the stone. I will give it another try tomorrow to see if stone will break at weak point. This isn't a hairline crack.

The best gift I have ever given my husband. Every steak we cook on it turns out amazing. No need to go to Black Rock when you can enjoy this item at home. Be sure to get the gloves. The stones are extremely hot.
