eMyloSmart Wireless Remote Control WiFi Switch Relay Module for Household Appliances Compatible with Alexa 4 Packs

So I had tried several other products, such as the popular "Sonoff" brand switches. I absolutely could not get them to work at all, even after contacting their support. I ended up returning those other brand switches.So I ordered these on a whim, they are a new product, and when I ordered there were NO reviews posted yet. Risky I thought, but oh well.Upon receipt they were nicely packed, with good quality quick connectors instead of crappy wire nuts but - first complaint here is that while the end caps are removable, there is no point to removing them. The wires are soldered to the PCB inside the unit - personally, I would rather them forgo the quick connects and wires, and just put a screw header on the PCB for connecting whichever wiring you need to. Nonetheless, the ends of the wires were pre-tinned with solder to keep them from fraying which was a nice touch, and the connectors they provided were of good quality - but they don't work well on high AWG wire (such as 12 AWG). They did work good on smaller AWG however.In my use case, I was putting these switches inside of fluorescent fixtures, where the internal wiring is 18 AWG, but the home wiring is 12 AWG. So I was able to use the connectors for the fixture side of the switch, but not for the internal house side. It would not bite onto a solid core 12 AWG wire and stay attached. Just something to note if you are using these as most people would.Anyways, those issues aside, they were fairly easy to set up - I used some double-sided foam tape to attach them to the inside of the fixtures, and was able to get them wired up fairly quickly. You could do this and then set them up in-situ, but I decided to get them setup prior to wiring, and I am glad I did.Thankfully I have a "quick-test" so I can connect devices to mains for situations like this (search for "CLIFF Quick Test on Google, I can't recall where I ordered my US version from). This enabled me to connect to mains voltage at my workbench and get them configured and synced to my account prior to installation - definitely do this if you can.As for setup and linking: The instructions are pure garbage. Throw them away and do this - this was the ONLY reliable method I found to configure.0) Before starting, you absolutely positively you must have a 2.4 GHz only wireless AP set-up. I did this on my router by setting up a "guest" network for all of my smart devices on the 2.4 GHz band only. This ensures the device only connects to that SSID and that frequency, and wont complain in the app if you have a dual band router.1) Connect your cell phone to the same 2.4 GHz AP you are using for the smart devices. Install the Smart Home app if you have not already and get your account set up.2) In the app, use "wall switch" for adding a new device type, and get it to the point where it says to make sure your device is blinking during the on screen setup.3) Hold the button down for at least 10 seconds. It will click several times. After 10 seconds, release the button.4) Immediately after release, count for 1 beat, and then hold in the button again for an additional 10 seconds.5) Click the confirm/next button in the app to tell it your device is blinking.6) Wait for the phone to finish setup - the switch might click once or twice. Be patient! Sometimes it takes the full 2 minutes.6b) If somehow this doesn't work, return to step 3 and repeat, making sure you are following the button holds exactly.7) It should be set up - test and make sure the switch clicks when you press the switch on screen on the app. Rename the device as desired - it will probably come up named by default with chinese characters.8 - optional) Link your smart life account with your google or amazon account according to those providers normal process. I did this with google - and then afterwords I told google home to "resync devices".Congrats, done! Now install them in the fixture (turn off your power at your breaker panel first!!!) and restore power, and give them about 30 seconds or so to reconnect up, and then test them out.Note: you could do the setup in-situ if you cannot connect before installing, its just going to be more difficult if you are on a ladder arms above head :)Oh and last bit - once all of this was done, they are working GREAT - they respond extremely fast - I also inspected the components, and they used decent quality components - the relays seem properly sized for the task, etc. Just make sure you adhere to their specifications - 10 A MAX - I wouldnt go more than 8 amps to give yourself a buffer - I am using on lights, so probably an amp max for me.4/5 stars due to poor instructions and other minor complaints. If they update the instructions and change to screw post connectors, I could give this 5 stars.

I bought this because I wanted to see if I could control my new pool light using my Amazon Alexa. I had recently changed out my light to a 12” Pool Baron nicheless LED pool light, so I needed something that would switch both the hot as well as the neutral lines at the same time. More importantly, I needed something that would be powerful enough to be able to pick up my wifi while being installed in a metal circuit breaker box located outside of my home.I chose the eMylo because they use the Tuya WiFi module, which is supposed to be the best as far as strength. The breaker box is outside, is 100% metal (with a 2nd metal cover that covers it), and is about 40-50’ from my WiFi router. I had tried others but they could not pick up the WiFi once the breaker box cover was closed – the eMylo was the only one that worked!I changed out the regular on/off power switch to a DPDT on/off/on switch so I could turn the light on manually if needed, but thanks to this switch I am able to use the Alexa with the Smart life app. Sweet! I had also had some concerns early on and eMylo was very good in helping me out. Five stars!

To start with they are current rated so they have limits. These work fine if you completely replace a switch. The overall construction of these is cheaply made. One of the four pack I received the end cover was broken off. Wires are real short and the provided connectors in my opinion are junk. Might work nice on stranded 14 but what house wire is like that. The size will fit in electrical box but as stated replacing a switch and blank cover. What I hated the most about these is unlike smart bulbs they do not stay in last state / position. As a comparison you can use a smart bulb and still operate with a light switch. So during the day you can enter / leave a room and operate the lights on a switch. When you go away you can leave switch on and operate through smart life app. With these relays they will remain on Wi-Fi in app as the lights do. However you have to leave switch on and only operates on Wi-Fi. It will not hold the state it was in. It is literally a switch. Not very useful in comparison to bulbs. So really depends on what you want to achieve. This is not for some home do it yourself. Make no mistake this is electrical and should as a minimum be done by someone with that expertise.

Does what I needed, which is to control an outside light. The app is flexible, and works with a bunch of other devices, although it doesn't appear to support any kind of dimming. Couple "gotcha's" in the setup: Most notably, the device is only 2.4GHz WIFI. If your home WIFI is the same name for both 2.4 and 5, you may need to turn off 5GHz while you pair this device (if you have "myhome" and "myhome-5", just make sure your connecting to "myhome" and it'll work). The app sends special packets over the network you're connected to, that the device will see even if it isn't connected, as long as it shows up on 2.4GHz.In the event of a power-outage, the device seems to default to ON, rather than off, or the last state. In my case this perfectly acceptable, but in some situations probably isn't ideal.My only other complaint is none of these devices are UL approved, as others have said, but that testing is very expensive and time-consuming.I'm happy overall, and will likely be getting some other components to control other devices.

Il manualetto di istruzioni incluso nella confezione (che ricorda vagamente i foglietti illustrativi dei medicinali!) è stampato in 7 lingue incluso l’italiano. Spendo comunque qualche parola riguardo all’installazione poiché questa, pur essendo un’operazione piuttosto semplice, viene illustrata in maniera piuttosto coincisa nel foglietto.Come praticamente tutti i dispositivi di questo genere, l’eMylo funziona in cloud. Pertanto la prima operazione da eseguire è l’installazione dell’apposita app nel dispositivo mobile, sia Android che IOS. Io comunque ho testato solo la versione per Android.Possiamo procedere sia inquadrando l’apposito QR-code stampato nel foglietto, scaricando così un file apk, sia installando dal Play di Google l’app “Smart Life - Smart Living”.Comunque si proceda, l’app purtroppo è in italiano e dico purtroppo perché, come spesso capita, è tradotta piuttosto male. Ho cercato senza successo un eventuale menù per impostare la lingua inglese, ma evidentemente l’app si adatta automaticamente alla lingua di Android. Questo aspetto comunque è fastidioso più che altro in fase di configurazione, perché nell’impiego la traduzione è decente.Dopo averla installata, l’app ci propone di loggarci alla piattaforma (se già disponiamo di un account) oppure di effettuare la registrazione ad essa (come solitamente accade quando si acquista il primo dispositivo di questa famiglia). Per la registrazione viene richiesto l’inserimento di un numero di cellulare oppure di un indirizzo email, oltre naturalmente all’immissione di una password a nostra scelta che includa entrambi lettere e numeri. Effettuata la registrazione l’app propone la ricerca del dispositivo, che nel frattempo avremo alimentato applicando la tensione di rete a 220V. Dal menù che appare sembrerebbe che si debba premere il pulsante relativo alla scansione bluetooth, ma il nostro dispositivo non è bluetooth! Ciò evidentemente accade perché l’app supporta un’infinità di dispositivi diversi.In realtà, come è scritto nel manuale, occorre selezionare la famiglia di dispositivi a cui il nostro appartiene, che nello specifico è “Interruttore”. Qui viene il bello perché compare un pulsantone azzurro denominato “luce di conferma nella flash”! Il senso di questo testo tradotto male è che prima di premerlo dobbiamo verificare che il led dell’eMylo lampeggi rapidamente (2 accensioni in verde al secondo). Premendo questo pulsantone ci viene richiesto di inserire la chiave della nostra wireless, rete che NON deve essere a 5GHz in quanto questa gamma non è supportata dall’app. In questa fase ho inavvertitamente confermato lasciando vuoto il campo della chiave ed il led ha iniziato a lampeggiare meno velocemente (forse un’accensione al secondo), senza ovviamente essere riuscito a connettermi. Forse avrei potuto staccare e ricollegare l’alimentazione dell’eMylo, ma ho cercato di resettarlo provando a premere per alcuni secondi il pulsante fisico presente sul dispositivo finché non ho sentito il click del relè all’interno ed il led ha ripreso a lampeggiare velocemente, permettendomi così di ripetere l’operazione.Una volta inserita la chiave della wireless, l’eMylo si è subito connesso al wifi ed al cloud senza alcun problema ed il dispositivo è diventato visibile nella videata principale dell’app. Da lì, agendo sul pulsante con il classico simbolo dell’interruttore di accensione, è possibile azionare il relè presente nell’eMylo e la risposta è praticamente immediata, sia che il cellulare sia connesso in wireless oppure che funzioni in 3G. Agendo invece sul nome del dispositivo si apre un’altra videata da cui, oltre a poter azionare ugualmente il relè, si ha la possibilità di attivare la funzione di countdown oppure quella di timer. Quest’ultimo può essere attivato sia una sola volta che con ripetizione, permettendo cioè di decidere in quali giorni della settimana deve attivarsi, analogamente ad una sveglia evoluta. Non ho testato queste due funzioni, comunque sono entrambe piuttosto intuitive e semplici da impostare. Nella stessa videata del countdown e del timer è presente un menu che permette di rinominare il dispositivo, includerlo in un gruppo e condividerlo con altri utenti.L’app permette inoltre di creare degli scenari di automazione, cioè di effettuare delle azioni al verificarsi di determinati eventi.Il dispositivo supporta inoltre sia Alexa che Google Home, il solo che ho testato. La configurazione è piuttosto semplice ed intuitiva: tramite l’app Home installata nel cellulare, dal menu “Controllo domestico” è sufficiente aggiungere il dispositivo “Smart Life” già presente nell’elenco di quelli gestibili da Google Home. Verranno poi richieste le credenziali di accesso che abbiamo impostato prima ed il gioco è fatto.Mi ha sorpreso positivamente il fatto che il tempo di azionamento del relè tramite Google Home, pur essendo ovviamente superiore a quello ottenuto agendo direttamente dall’app, è praticamente uguale a quello con cui, sempre da Google Home, comando i relè di altri dispositivi che funzionano in locale (cioè senza cloud) tramite protocollo MQTT.Premesso tutto ciò, il confronto con il dispositivo concorrente, cioè il SonOff Basic è doveroso. Entrambi sono stati descritti e impiegati nel canale youtube e nel blog di Vincenzo Caputo, diventato ormai un riferimento per l’Home Automation.L’eMylo presenta dei morsetti a clip esterni al contenitore della scheda. Questi, se da un lato semplificano l’inserimento dei cavetti elettrici, sembrano rendere l’eMylo più ingombrante del SonOff. Tuttavia sfilando i coperchietti marroni che serrano le due prolunghe (per rimuoverli occorre svitare le due viti e sganciare l’incastro superiore, cosa non molto agevole) è possibile accedere a una morsettiera a viti ad ogni estremità in cui, dopo aver rimosso le prolunghe, possiamo connettere direttamente l’alimentazione da un lato ed il carico dall’altro. Tenendo conto di questo, le dimensioni dei due sono praticamente uguali, l’eMylo è solo più alto di uno-due millimetri rispetto al SonOff. In comune hanno il pulsante che permette di azionare localmente il relè, fornendo al contempo un riscontro del suo stato nell’app.Il SonOff però soffre o comunque ha sofferto di una grossa pecca: il servizio cloud è stato spesso non funzionante ed in queste condizioni il dispositivo è inservibile. Per contro a tutt’oggi non mi risulta che siano mai stati segnalati problemi di questo genere con l’eMylo.Il problema del SonOff ha spinto alcuni sviluppatori a scrivere per questo dispositivo dei firmware alternativi finalizzati a renderlo funzionante direttamente in locale, rendendolo comunicante, tramite protocollo MQTT, ad un apposito piccolo server da tenere in casa, ma l’implementazione di tutto ciò non è decisamente alla portata dell’utente medio che vuole un oggetto “chiavi in mano”.L’eMylo, a differenza del SonOff, non si presta a queste modifiche, sia perché l’hardware è al momento sconosciuto, sia perché non sembrano esserci nella scheda dei pin atti a comunicare col PC per il riversamento del firmware, né si conosce una procedura per il flashing OTA. Aggiungerò la quinta stella se e quando il costruttore fornirà delle informazioni per poter modificare il firmware.In conclusione: agli smanettoni consiglio il SonOff, ma a tutti gli utenti comuni che vogliono un oggetto semplice da configurare ed impiegare posso riferire tranquillamente che l’eMylo è un’ottima scelta.

As it said it works straight out of the box. The little button on it simply turns out on and off of you press it but to set it up you have to hold it down until the light comes on continuously. The Smartlife app will then see it and pair correctly.

set up was a nightmare but evenentually sorted - not sure I could do again but it solves my problem as a remote smart switch
