Review of the JVC GY-250 -On paper this looked ideal.I've been filming local gigs for about 6yrs on Canon DSLR's and thought this would be an ideal upgrade due to its streaming function, its ability to record to the memory cards 'whilst' streaming (something the Canons don't do), its ability to insert a 'logo' onto the video, overlay graphics whilst streaming and it's recording in .mov format which i'm used to so would save the learning curve of switching file format and having to change my editing software. On it's arrival yesterday all seemed well until I did a couple of test recordings in my lounge.First off I noticed the LCD screen was quite grainy, nowhere near as clear as on the Canon 70'D's.Next up was the focusing, even on the 'fast' setting it is quite slow and struggles in anything but bright light, (used my LED video light), compared to the DSLR's and without a touch to focus screen you are relying on its autofocus with no apparent focus point showing on the screen or in the viewfinder.I then got the DSLR out and did a short vid to compare the two under the same lighting conditions. The Canon had no trouble focusing...without the additonal LED video light that the JVC needed.'Hunting' seems to be it's favourite hobby which renders it useless if what you are filming is not stationary, theres simply no excuse for this happening with todays technology, I'd actually forgot about lenses struggling to focus it's been that long since I came across it.Apart from that it appears to be well built. It's pretty much useless for live filming gigs and run'n'gun shooting due to its difficulty in focusing so it's gone straight back for a refund.However... If you are simply setting it up on a tripod to film a meeting/event/etc on a tripod and using a fixed focus point and it is a well lit venue then it's ability to live stream might come in handy. In the real worls of rough'n'ready filming on the go.....don't bother.Very disappointed.
