Annoying ommissions
The omissions are most annoying with this book. When it speaks of the Drop in Center of Over the Rhine it only deals with the more famous works for the homeless of Mr. Buddy Gray. Mr. Gray was an important figure, not knocking him. However, like most modern era reporting of Over the Rhine history it neglects the prior work of Drop In Centers on Vine Street devoted to inner city youth. I speak of the original Over The Rhine Drop in Center on 1329 Vine Street with Robert (Ricky) Simpson as director. Reported in The Cincinnati Post March 29, 1972 (last paragraph.) The youth based Over The Rhine Drop in Center did some great work that should not be forgotten. I know, I was there. As a libertarian of political ideology, I am not fond of government programs. But as waste is one side of the coin, there was another that should be discussed as freely and honestly. Some of the program spending of that era did some remarkable things for people who usually do not get much positive societal attention.

The German Catholic Beer Book
I really like the Arcadia books especially about Cincinnati but this one was very disappointing to both my husband and I who have family history back to pre Civil War days in Cincinnati. He drove a truck for 32 years and delivered in the Over The Rhine. His grandparents had a home there and his mom grew up there. Most of the notable people mentioned in the book we never heard of. Most people spoke German not because they were German but because Germany and the Catholic Vatican Government controlled most of Europe from about 800 to 1800. You spoke a German dialect and learned Latin because it was the language of the laws. Between 1900 and 1910 over 800 Hungarian families (Eastern Europeans) migrated to this town. They spoke German but left to get away from Germany. What it appears to me is that the authors had a totally Catholic education and drank a lot of beer. Just about all other influences of Cincinnati were left out. That's a lot of people and a narrow view of the Queen City.

Great book
Great book about the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati. 3 of my 4 grandparents lived here and it shed light on what that was like.

Valuable Cincinnati History
A great book of Cincinnati history. OMI may not have played as large a part as indicated by the large number of words allotted to it.

Cincinnati History Rocks!
I love these pictoral history of Cincinnati series. There are so many stories, great pictures that are not seen by the public. I have many of these books, and I remend them as great gifts for anyone who loves Cincinnati. I still buy them even though I have moved to Naples.
