Lonely Planet Miami & the Keys 8 (Regional Guide)

A lot more Miami than Keys
Bought this book for a road trip that I was planning for about 5 days in the Keys. It's hard to tell before buying it, but this book is much more focused on Miami than on the Keys. My guess is the book is 80-85% Miami and 10-15% Keys. The info in the Keys section was pretty helpful, it was just really thin.

Adequate, but barely
I shouldn't complain - this guide helped me to have an interesting 4 days in Miami. However, I will! The infomation was minimalist, detailed maps non-existent. Links for more information usually ended up at websites. In one way this was good, because the info. was up to date. In another it wasn't, because the sites were generally designed to sell tickets, and it was hard to extract useful material. I've generally liked Lonely Planet, but this wss definitely the Pocket-Sized Edition.

Find another option for the Keys
Pretty limited on information of things to do and see in the Keys, besides Key West, which that section still seems pretty lacking.

Facts not opinions needed
I have bought Lonely Planet publications for various places, worldwide over the years. The clarity and accuracy of information can be relied upon. Having purchased this book, I was highly disappointed that on the page for Marathon, Grassy Keys, there is an opinionated piece of text about dolphins and sealions in captivity. It is obvious that this is linked to the Dolphin Research Center which is located in Marathon. The text names another center making sea pens for their dolphins, whcih is indeed the layout of the Dolphin Research Center. It makes no reference to the rescued marine mammals and birds or indeed the cognitive research and educational programmes that take place in Marathon. Unfair and opinion-based; wish I hadn't bought the book.

Ok but not the best book
Found this book a bit boring. Not too many photos.

A Good guide to SE Florida
Plenty of info on the area though maybe a bit too enthusiastic over some places which were pretty uninteresting.
