Filmed in Canada, THE LITTLEST HOBO TV series was originally broadcast in 1963 in black and white, aired for three seasons and then made a noteworthy comeback to even heavier syndication in 1979, this time in color. The show was so popular that it ran until 1985. THE LITTLEST HOBO was one of the few shows on TV to feature something other than a human regular as the star. That unique star - a profoundly intelligent stray German shepherd named Hobo (real name - London) wanders around helping people resolve their crises, and leaving them forever changed in the process. Boundless warmth, humor and suspense combine to make this 12 episode TV collection involving a captivating canine's adventures, a remarkably touching and memorable experience for the entire family. Featuring the theme song Road Without End

Excellent.
I was delighted to find this had been released. Having been a been a big fan of the original series, it is actually a bonus to find that three of the episodes were shot in colour, as I expected that they were all going to be black and white. Chuck Eisenmann the owner/trainer of "London" and all the German Shepherds used in the series, did a great deal to change the way that dogs are trained. It's great that this is available as an example of his work.It is a shame that this has got two bad reviews for "not being from the second series", but it is very clear on the packaging that this is from the original series with the theme song "Road Without End". Hopefully at least some of the second series will also be released sometime soon.

This is the 1960's version
similar to other reviews for the littlest hobo dvd's, this isnt the version you've probably seen on tv from the early 80s, but rather the original 1960's versionthe episodes themselves are fairly cheesy, with the some stunningly bad acting, but quite sweet and entertaining for that reason, and kids would probably like itit really needs to be made clear on the description which version this is, as it seems to be relying on the fact that no-one is going to know there was some old original version of this series. Although it does contain some episodes in colour, the rest are in black and white and the theme tune isnt the brilliant one from the later seriesI want to know where I can get hold of the "proper" later series on PAL region 2 DVD!

Not as it Seems...!!!
I was disappointed with this as it is the old 1960s series and with the old theme tune. Was looking forward to the 1980s programme with the well known theme tune "Maybe Tomorrow". Half of this was in black and white or was when originally shown....

FOLLOW THE HOBO'S TRAIL
This is indeed the earlier television series made in Canada in 1963 and none the worse for that. The star is London, one of several German shepherd dogs used in the series and trained by the master of all dog trainers Charles P. Eisenmann. If you are a dog lover and a bit of a sentimentalist, you will delight in the adventures of the Littlest Hobo, a really wonderful dog who roams from one town to another meeting a variety of folk and befriending them for a while until it is time he went on his way again. The opening theme song 'Road Without End' says it all as the Hobo hitches a ride on the railroad:'I find adventure everywhere And friends with whom I like to share. This is my stop along the way. Don't really know how long I'll stay. Stop over - might make a new friend. Stop over along the road without end.' There are 12 episodes on this 2-dvd set each lasting around 25 minutes. The first three are in colour for the first time, having originally been transmitted in black and white. The others are all in black and white. The quality is very good, although there is no mention of them having been remastered. Guest stars include: Keenan Wynn, Jim Davis, Harry Townes and Ellen Corby.I would recommend this touching series to anyone. It should really have cult status by now, but of course it has not been shown for many years and is largely forgotten.I hope that VCI will release more episodes soon and perhaps also the 1979 series which was in colour and featured many more guest stars, and, of course, had a different but equally appealing theme song. The dogs in that series were also trained by Mr. Eisenmann
