Trouble on Paradise: Expeditionary Force, Book 3.5

Surprisingly good.
I wasn't expecting much from Alanson when I started reading Columbus Day. It was way better than I expected. This was a star better than that. Unlike books 1 through 3, which were good enough to continue the series, the overused juvenile jokes are absent. I hope there are more like this. This is good, solid sci-fi.

Good, getting better
Some of the best B-tier SF out there. Great big ideas (love that), some redundancy in writing (acceptable, given a need to recap 3.5 books at this point), and much more attention to proper punctuation and grammar (improved proofing has helped a lot--first two books were a real mess grammatically--mostly punctuation). Good story, almost standalone, but much better if you've read the first three books. Missed Skippy in this one though. Character development is getting better, too. Recommended, but don't expect Iain Banks-level quality (yet). This series has a lot of potential. Some of the best military SF out there now, in that it's quite fresh and up to date on our actual early 21st century tech.

Constant adventure, fun and humor
Numbers 1 and 2 I read here (Kindle) earlier and, in a cheapskate mode, went looking for something fun enough to reread; up popped Craig’s books. Craig’s getting better, of course - best way to get better at writing is to write. Betcha his planning helps too.Still in cheapskate mode, I discovered that our local library found Craig popular enough to have ExForce on the shelves, so i read #3 on my tax money. They didn’t buy 3.5, so here I am.One of my measures is how much I skip because the writing gets tedious. FAR less this time, and I have every expectation that trend will continue. This may be my last ExForce review, as the library bought ‘em all, which I hope serves as a compliment to Craig’s talent. Thank you, sir, for what continues to be a wonderfully fun ride.

Dont b scared2get this based on bad reviews if U 💖the story so far this needs 2b in ur collection!
Yes whiners are gonna whine this should have been part of book 3 and its short but I disagree. This is a new branch and therefore needs it's own book. Surgen Jates is decent comic relief and it's still a compelling story even without Joe and Skippy! Oh Nerf, you make it easy to love you! Thanks Mr. Alanson for giving writing a try, and thanks to your wife for giving you permission!😂 I'm enjoying both Mavericks and E.F. Thanks for making this downtime more enjoyable with an excuse to belly laugh while hanging on the edge of my seat with anxiety for the characters. Fantasy sports (football) is humans' great achievement😂?!

not bad, but not up to par with what i expected from this author
this was not up to par with the other books in the series. i understand that this is supposed to be a novella so maybe it shouldn't be held to the same standard for that reason, im not really sure. at some points it seemed like the author had a check sheet of plot holes from the other books to tie up. i also understand that humans are the heroes of the story because we are used to dealing with less advanced tech and we are willing to work harder/ have more experience in the less advanced warfare that this planet has been reduced to. however the fact that humans were able to outperform the genetically enhanced and technologically superior ruhar at every turn made it hard to get lost in the story. i just found it unbelievable. all that being said it was still a good enough book to hold my interest.

I'd like to give it a 5 ⭐, however...
I have been enjoying the entire series however there are many times the Author SHOULD have used an editor to correct spelling errors, places where it is obvious a word is missing or two words together without a space between. Something a person should learn in Basic English 101.I would assume most people know that Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon and NOT Neal Armstrong, or the Canadian singer is NOT Celene Dion...f you are going to name drop at least spell it correctly. Although these novels have been coming out since 2016 it appears that correcting the multitude of errors is not in any To-Do List. However, this doesn't stop me from purchasing his novels...it is just such an annoyance.

A great read.
I'm loving the whole Ex-Force series, it's a great story and has great characters. This novella is a nice kind of offshoot to the main series with more good characters to you can easily get attached to.

Great story,
Short book in the ex force series. I couldn’t justify the $20 or 1 credit for the amazing mr bray to narrate, but good to fill in some of the backstory in the ex force universe

Follow up to the series.
Enjoyed this book as it covered some of the action and problems that occurs for the people left on Paradise. Puts different parts into context and gets you wondering will they ever be saved!

Very good spin-off! Deserves it's name as book no. 3,5!
As the book is in English like all the main-books, here's my review in English aswell! The obvious one first: This book may be a spin-off, but it is highly recommended to read books 1, 2 and 3 before starting this one.The story is all about UNEF on Paradise and it starts a few days before the end of book 3. And then it continues to tell a story of some of the characters currently stuck on Paradise and what happens after the end of book 3. In my opinion it was really enjoyable to read, although it was shorter compared to the main books. Nevertheless this doesn't affect my opinion at all.I bought it for 0,99€, which is well worth the price for what you get. If you enjoyed the parts of the main books playing on paradise and if you want to see more of the Ruhar-Human-relationship developing, then I highly recommend this book! There's not much more to be said without giving spoilers, all I do say is: It has the same writing style, funny parts and serious parts as well, nothing really differs from the main books. And for my part: I would like to have more of those 'short-spin-offs' telling the story of UNEF. I really enjoy reading about humans and Ruhar and I am really looking forward to what this relationship is going to develop.
