British Heavy Cruisers 1939–45: 190 (New Vanguard)

A Backbone of the Royal Navy
When we find the Royal Navy has only one ship available to protect shipping in the Middle East, the book is a sad reminder, not only of the number of heavy cruisers and the variety of sub-classes, but of what we have simply discarded, both physically and strategically, in the years since the War. The book makes clear the cost of neglecting/dismissing history - the subject that too many think a waste of time. How many of those fine ships that, the book demonstrates, served us so well, did we keep, even as historic memorials? None - not even the Cumberland, which survived long after her sisters.

Great introduction.
Excellent introduction to RN heavy cruisers of WW2. Stats on ships; summary of actions; nicely illustrated. Obviously quite a short book, but well written, and a taster for further reading.

A worth-while little book
An excellent little book with plenty of information, photos and some good artwork. Noticed a couple of mistakes like 'eight allied groups were sent to search for the Graf Spee, three French and six British', That makes nine? and Exeter's demise is shown as both 1st March 1942 and 1st May 1942? This sort of thing is usually down to lax proof reading and has caused the loss of one star in my rating. But hey, I have seen far worse mis-information and mistakes in books costing £20-30. Suffice to say I have already ordered parts 1 and 2 of British Battleships 1939-45, to be followed by British Battle-cruisers and Aircraft Carriers and I look forward to publication of British Light Cruisers 1939-45. Enough said I think!

British Heavy Cruisers 1939-45
This book is a very detailed accurate account of the heavy cruisers of this period. If you are a model builder building a heavy cruiser of this period then this book is a must. I purchased this book along with the other book by the same authors titled British Light Cruisers 1939-45. Both books bough through AMAZON.

British Crusiers WW 2
Mr. Konstam has written several Osprey books and this on is just as good as the others! This time he deals with the British Treaty Cruisers of WW2 and does an outstanding job of giving the read history, weapons, photo and drawings in a small volume. He give the read information about each class of ship plus there pros and con's showing how Policy makers rather then naval need created these ships. If you buy it on kindle the drawing and text can get separated.

Focus on WWII Brit maids-of-all-work...
Not a very common subject despite broad applications in all theaters; continuing the tradition of the far-ranging, Horatio Hornblower,C.S. Forester/Alistari MacLean frigate/cruiser Captains....gives brief history of individual ships, used similarly to post-Pearl Harbor American cruisers, as nearest thing to capital ships that were available at the time. HMS Belfast, largest Brit lt cruiser, and USS Salem, post-WWII super-heavy cruiser are only survivors extant...Excelsior,madMark

A very good series, I recommend them all
Companion Volume to the light cruisers, this one covers the heavy cruisers of WW II in the British navy. From the elegent County classes, to their follow ons, Each ship is well covered, even to the wartime camo schemes each carried. A very good series, I recommend them all.

Britain's heavies on point.
I enjoy Konstam's "to the point" narrative, he addresses each Class and gives development and historical details in a none to wordy summary. Plates are some of the best I've seen in the series as well.
