Magnitude: The Scale of the Universe

An *Extraordinary* Science Resource about the Scale and Measurement of Everything for Everyone! Great for Students!
Have you ever felt perplexed by large numbers? Are there too many zeros too far to the left or right of the decimal point? Authors and NASA Scientists, Kim Arcand and Megan Watzke, along with Illustrator and Astrophysicist Katie Peek created this extraordinary read, Magnitude: The Scale of the Universe. Their inspiration for writing this incredible book is that most people are intimidated and overwhelmed by the spectrum of measurement from the infinitesimal to the astronomical. This book is not just about the size of the universe, it's about anything and everything that can be measured. It includes many definitions and wonderful examples and comparisons for distance, area, volume, mass, speed, acceleration, density and the list goes on! Magnitude explains the concept of measurement by scale using scientific notation in uncomplicated terms. The authors created logical sections and subsections defining specific units of measurement. Each section contains well-written narratives accompanied by beautiful illustrations and infographics assisting the reader throughout the book. Magnitude: The Scale of the Universe is an exceptional STEM and STEAM resource that everyone can understand, enjoy and learn from and that I highly recommend! A great gift idea for students!

Great Gift Book -- kids, adults, teachers
We gave this as gifts at Christmas to several people. One recipient was my stepfather, a retired Geography professor, who loved it, and gave a copy to his daughter who teaches middle school science. We gave a copy to each of three nephews: a high school sophomore (liked it, didn't love it but he's not used to using books for things he normally looks at online); a middle schooler interested in books on science (loved it); and a smart fourth grader (loved it). My fifth-grade daughter's school has a science specialist teacher, so we gave him a copy as well. From their responses, I would recommend "Magnitude" as a gift for science-oriented kids and adults and especially science teachers.Ship it directly to recipient as it's heavy and costly to ship it yourself to someone.

Computer Dilema
This book is fun and factual, however, I had problems getting to the websites shown at the end of the book. There was one though that I got a chance to look at "The Scales of the Universe 2". If you purchase, the book you will find it at the end.

Incorrect temperature conversion formula.
On page 53, under the heading "Temperature", the formula listed for conversion is:Fahrenheit = (Celsius - 32) * 9/5Probably a typo.I will update the rating as I go through the book. I wanted to point out the mistake but have not yet contemplated the rating.

I'm not a whiz in physics but I found this ...
I'm not a whiz in physics but I found this book absorbing and very interesting. I wish I had read it before I took my physics final exam (many years ago!).
