Moggs Motel

I am so conflicted about this one (I know 5 stars doesn't look conflicted, but read on.)I have been a fan of Phil Mogg's wonderful singing since I first heard Ufo's Lights Out album back in the 70's. Not only was his voice distinctive but so was his style of singing. He was almost like a crooner tacked on to a heavy metal band. Along with most of the Ufo albums I also own the two (?) non Ufo projects he put out.But now the voice and style seem to have gone, perhaps due to his recent heart attack, perhaps just age.Listening to this album his voice is lower and some (fortunately not all) of the style has goneThis is where the conflict is.I bought this to hear those fantastic vocals and style and what I got instead was an absolutely superb album sung almost by someone else!I have listened today and I have been stunned by the 13 tracks on the cd.If you put Mogg out of your mind as the singer (sadly easy to do) and just listen to the album as a new bands album (which it is to some extent) you may be as surprised as I was.The music was powerful, inventive and surprisingly fresh.So while it was not what I was expecting it to be, I have no regrets about the 5 star rating and I can see myself recommending this to most of my circle.If you are looking at this album and are on the fence...... Buy it and be pleasantly surprised.

I was unsure what this new music release would be. Mr Mogg has played with some of music's best musicians and the sum of the parts is what makes a great band Then I played it!!! Phil is 76 years old and still alive after a heart attack and i'm guessing no one told him any of that This release in my view is amazing, every song has texture and depth he sings of the past the present his love of coke and friends on the other side. This is what rock'n'roll was meant to be down and dirty from the groove The writings of Newton and Carter allow the true life vocals to ring like a day on the sunny side of heaven Thank You Kind Sir Please give us another Fly that Union Jack proudly you crazy brit

I have to admit that I thought that Phil Moog is done after his heart attack and UFO folded, but man what a mistake! This is a stunning album, from first to last song, from the front cover to complete luxury packaging with 16 pages of complete lyrics and excellent photos. Phil's voice sounds so deep and dark and works great with fresh riffs and melodies. This is his best material since the Obsession album.I found a single Apple Pie on YouTube and I was like wait a minute, that was rocking and finally, I have album in my hands and I totally love it.

I swear I like this CD better than recent UFO releases.I'll go back and listen to the UFO stuff tho to test my impression.Mostly heavy and very classy. I am glad Phil put this out.After the heart issue, I didn't expect a new work. But here it is.Get it

Phil Moog singer songwriter of one of the greatest hard rock 70's 80's bands and influencer ofgreat bands like Iron Maiden Judas Priest Saxon even Metallica shows after UFO has landedand he suffered heart attack he is back and ready to rock. This sounds like previous UFO albumsfrom recent years and is as fresh and good! Neil Carter who was part of 80's UFO is back andplaying lead guitar and keyboards sounding great. The single Apple Pie just kicks ... and I lovefinal track Storyville co wrote by Carter. One of the best songs. I don't hear a 'classic' UFOtype song but it's not UFO which is probably what Moog wanted. His voice is still one of a kind.He doesn't need to scream high wailing vocals! Such a treat! It's a must have. Nice CD artworkand lyrics included which Moog still writes some great ones with wit and humor. Get it now.

Phil Mogg continues to be an excellent artist! This is a very strong album; it rocks and is a bit bluesy and some of the tunes are quite creative. The album is reminiscent of solid UFO tunes but is refreshingly different, too. Enjoy!

I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered Phil Mogg, with a new band, was releasing new music. I being a long time fan of UFO immediately preordered the CD. I think it’s accurate to report Phil Mogg has not mellowed. I’m probably in the minority but have liked all the music by UFO throughout the many incarnations of the band. Odds were I would like this release but I was still surprised at how much I liked it. Neil Carter is the other old guy in the band and of course an alumnus of UFO. I didn’t recognize the names of the three other younger band members but hopefully this isn’t a one off and there will be more music in the future.

Totally kickass album every song was amazing great riffs great melodies , Phil Mogg was amazing I hope this album gets record of the year, time to induct UFO to rock n roll hall of fame , totally underate it singer man he deserve his dues , everybody love UFO Metallica iron maiden Def Leppard food fighters that list can go on

This CD is awesome. I was hesitant in buying it at first, but being a fan of UFO I took a chance being that Phil Mogg was the lead vocalist, and I'm glad I did as this is one fantastic CD. No fillers to be found, only great riffs, hooks and songs that epitomize what pure Rock'n'Roll is all about. I highly recommend this CD.

As a massive UFO fan I was saddened to hear band leader Mr Phil Mogg had suffered a heart attack a couple of years ago and thought it was all over at the very least for his singing career. UFO were on their last run before retiring and his health scare put a final nail into that starship.Now in 2024 Mogg is back along with Neil Carter (also UFO) and they have released a brilliant album under the handle of Moggs MotelThis album contains everything you would hope for and more for UFO nutters to enjoy. Highly melodic, varied and also rockin' - for a guy in his mid-70's he's still kicking serious butt.No point doing a sing by song breakdown suffice to say if you ever liked UFO you should definitely purchase this NOW!
