Ashley Bryan's tale of how the cat got its purr is charming for youngsters or adults, and his illustrations are of the same high quality. This book is a wonderful way to introduce children to real art instead of schlock.

My childhood story is now sitting safely on my shelf. I was a little disappointed with the wear and tear. It has a bunch of stickers from its Library days but its still in good condition.

This book is a wonderful experience for any child. It is a perfect book for an adult to read orally to their child (or group of children) and is easy for a child to read themselves. It is a fun stroy that not only explains how a cat got its purr sound, but also why cats and rats dislike each other. Highly recommended.
