Dead Med

An outstanding revision!
Having read the original, which is a standalone in itself, this version seems to be more reflective of Ms. McFaddens style and growing talents as they've evolved to this present day. Dead Med is smoother, more polished; any initial "shocks" in it's predecessor, those wrinkles have been ironed out, "necessary" changes have been made. This is a literary work of art, not that it's ancestor was worthy of any criticism. This book was an enjoyable breeze to read. Highly recommended to anyone, as well as medical professionals worldwide for it's vast entertainment value as well as it's accuracy of terminology. Ten stars if I could, by all means. I look forward to her future publications, having already devoured most of the past ten years worth. Those still unread I'm savouring. Happy reading!

I love that it was written in different characters perspectives. And the ending was awesome! On to the next one !

Kinda good, kinda meh
Don't get me wrong, I love Freida, but this book bugged me in a few ways. Some minor spoilers ahead.First, it begins strong with some suspense, but then it goes back in time and we see events from different characters' perspectives, but it starts with a fairly boring character, and I'm sure it's supposed to portray that this character is not super bright, but it came across as poor writing. Then there were just too many characters' perspectives. Then it suddenly gets exciting and suspenseful again, to just end suddenly. Finally there's a flash-forward epilogue that kinda tries to tie everything together again, but just ends with me wanting more

Fun listen
I enjoyed listening to this book. Frieda did a great job transitioning the story telling perspective from character to character and slowly building the plot and story through the various characters. I’m not always a fan of novels that jump back and forth a lot, but in this novel each character’s portion of the story is continuous until it changes to the next character so it doesn’t feel disjointed of like a brain teaser.

Really Excellent Story!!!
Very twisty and complex line of characters. You will never see it coming. I was throughly engrossed and could not put this book down. One of my favorites now on to the next Freida McFadden Book.

Good Read
Like all Freida books, this was a good easy read. However, it’s not one of her best. I felt like this one left a lot of unanswered questions at the end.

A unique Med School thriller, significantly improved from the original.
Imagine if the ‘fastest selling thriller writer in the United States’, author of 23 books with more than six millions copies sold, went back to extensively revise her debut thriller - The multi-award winner author of today editing and extensively revising the book self-published ten years ago by an eager, more naive author who hoped maybe a thousand people would read it.Five students at DeWitt Medical School, from the first day to the final exam. Each of their stories is told in a separate first-person chunk, leading up to the finale. It’s a good story, Dead Med is infamous for the student death rate, suspected overdoses, students who struggled with the challenging syllabus, schedule and exam pressures. How will these five students cope?Five distinct personalities, each with ambitions, quirks and fully developed characters. The structure of five parallel stories works brilliantly as they criss cross and overlap, the reader sees some of the events from multiple perspectives. The strands weave together more tightly the more we find out.Dead Med is a major revision of Freida McFadden’s first thriller, which was self-published nearly ten years ago. Those ten years have seen Freida McFadden rise to be an internationally bestselling author and as fans crack binge on everything she has ever written Dead Med now fits in seamlessly with her newer thrillers. The changes are obvious, one of the biggest most memorable shocks from the debut thriller has been removed and this is a much slicker, more balanced and nuanced novel. It’s a crafted character-driven thriller building towards the finale through the five parallel strands, Freida’s character writing and dry humour still shine. Don’t expect a twist-after-twist rollercoaster like Never Lie, The Teacher or The Housemaid, but this still a great story expertly told. This is much more polished, faster, tighter and more cohesive, the result of 2024 best-selling Freida expertly sharpening 2014 Freida’s original ideas. It’s got traditional straightforward thriller storytelling, but with the original structural twist of the five parallel character stories, it feels like something Peter Swanson could write, or the movie Pulp Fiction. One for the connoisseurs.Highly recommended, a must read for Freida Readers and one which should appeal outside her devoted fan base.Read it with no expectations and try to forget what you think you know if you’ve read the original.
