Informative and inspiring
Bought as a Christmas present for my sister who is an architect. Can’t comment from her perspective but on a quick glance this looks like a lovely book. Excellent to see the achievements of great women in fields dominated by men. The photos are great and the short bios about each person are easy to read and informative, even for those of us not in the field. Certainly a lovely present.

A celebration of the influence of women on the world of design.
Underpinning this fascinating celebration of the lives and achievements of these 21 women designers is how so many of those profiled were limited by the constraints imposed on them by society and their chosen profession and how they constantly struggled for acceptance and merited recognition. The word "Design" covers architecture, products (including cars), textiles, digital and the theatre. Although this in many ways represents the archetypal coffee table book with some truly sumptuous photographs the quality of the informative and accessible accompanying text written by Libby Sellers who is an eminent design historian ensures that this is a book to be read rather than just looked at for its fine photographs.Although I was aware of some of the designers featured it was interesting to be introduced to others I was regrettably until now not aware of and it was heartening to learn that some have been the subject of retrospective exhibitions showcasing their works. Looking again through these pages it is now clear what a profound influence on twentieth century design those featured had and how with particular reference for example to the Bauhaus movement their contribution have been underplayed and marginalised. The next time I visit one of the buildings featured here for example Zaha Hadid's Riverside Museum building in Glasgow I will certainly see it in a fresh light which is testament to the influence this book had on me. Whether you are a student of design or like me merely appreciative of its influence and appeal I think that you will find this is a rewarding book to have.A review copy was provided by the publisher.

It sits on my shelf.
It sits on my shelf... Gathering dust. Quite a few grammatical errors. Sentences feel disjointed and I feel like there are now stories that pack a 'wow' punch.I guess it's a 'read it before' book.Great display book though.

Designing Women!
I bought this for a good friend of mine, a woman who remodels historical homes and is an excellent designer. She LOVED this book. After briefly glancing through it before I gift wrapped it, I'm going to order one also. Anyone interested in architecture and design will cherish this book
