Q: is this actually just cotton or a polyester mix as this is not mentioned?

There are contradicting says on this. I want to know which is true. Look at one of the feedbacks below Not 100% Egyptian cotton and Not 200 thread count!! I wasn't expecting much considering the price but when a product is sold as 100% Egyptian cotton with a 200 thread count I expect it to be exactly that. The packaging says 50% cotton / 50% polyester and the thread count is 180. If I had known this I wouldn't have bought this product. This is mis-selling, I expect a full refund.

No. Just duvet cover and pillow cases. It is also not egyptian cotton at all, and dye ran very badly in wash. Would not recommend.

No sheen but i got red so can't answer that. I got this to answer as i reviewed the item as being rough not soft, red dye ran very badly. Packet said cotton not egyptian cotton. Not what i paid for.

Q: Is this a darker grey, like charcoal?

Not quite dark as charcoal. But it isn't light grey.
