My long wait is over ...
I have waited so long for the guys in charge to have the common sense to make this film and, to be honest, they have done such a good job up until now that I trusted them to get it right. I have to say, I was not disappointed.I know that some fans have argued over this and that - the opening, the ending, the sex with Barbara, etc - but it would have been a very short film if all they'd done was an animated impersonation of the graphic novel. It would have been good, it would have been loved, but that's all it would have been; an impersonation. Anyone with a dollop of zeal and the necessary to pull it off could have done that. No, in my opinion, this was - for a start - a heck of a tribute to the original. However, it's not only that; the 'padding' as some people have termed it, only encases the heart of this timeless classic story, like a shell surrounding the golden nut (and I use the term in full knowledge of the possible pun, sorry,) within, so that when you suddenly come to those raindrop ripples you know that the layers of wrapping paper are finally off and you have made your way to the stupendous gift. I mean, come on - since when has an unwrapped present, just handed over and feeling like a last minute buy at the local late-night petrol station (gas station to my fellow fans across the pond,) made you feel as excited and loved as one done up in gift wrap and a bow?The team, writers, animators, voice artists, and everyone else concerned with bringing this wonderful nugget to the screen, have gone all out, as I trusted that they would, and they've done it with absolute love for the subject matter. For me, the extra layers of plot only add to the gloriousness that is 'Batman: The Killing Joke', and although if it was desert island time and I could only take ONE Batman-related thing it would be the graphic novel, what can I say? Everything that should be there, is there, in spades. I find that I don't care where that joke is told ... as long as it IS.The voice artistry of Kevin, Mark and all the gang, more than holds the narrative together, for me, right the way through, and the soundtrack is just wonderful. The whole production is everything I wished for.You want a grump? One tiny little grump, just to prove a point, to prove that I'm not biased?Sorry. Don't have one.

Hoping to produce a balanced, considered review...
I have heard this feature polarize opinion among fans of both the animated series, films and comics/graphic novels aswell as casual viewers. Some of the casual viewers were unprepared for the more sinister content which was on show, especially with the Joker being voiced by Mark Hamill and harking back to the much more tame TV series released after Tim Burton's virtual relaunch of the character with the first feature film. While devotees of the Killing Joke graphic novel have considered that adaptation lacks impact or horror of the kind that the original comic was able to convey.I would suggest that the adaptation is sinister, it is grittier than perhaps some of the fans or casual viewers will be prepared for, the content is very violent and there are a number of stills within the feature which are directly referencing or lifted from the graphic novel, so I dont see how there can be that much complaint in that respect. However, that said, I feel that the animated movie adaptations of the two part Dark Knight Returns, achieved, much, much better than did this feature, a lot of the themes within this storyline which were so groundbreaking at the time it was originally produced, these animated features and the other animated movie which features Red Hood, also has more impact than this movie did.I am not exactly sure why this should be so as this is an unflinching adaptation of the graphic novel, the crimes that the Joker commits against Commissioner Gordon, Gordon's daughter and wife, in an attempt to drive him insane and prove that "everyone is just one bad day from being him", all feature and I am not sure these could be more explicit and less implicit without it being in bad taste. None the less I found the other features more hard hitting than this one.The closing sequence in this movie closely mirrors that of the still frames of the comic, however, this conclusion has been debated back and forth for a long time. When I first read it I reached a particular conclusion which the author himself went on the record with saying was the correct interpretation. I think that the movie goes with the ambiguous or popularly conceived conclusion other than this one. I'm not sure how it could have been managed differently but to a first time viewer it could lack something if they dont know the back story to those scenes.

Kevin Conroy & Mark Hamill - Best Batman & Joker
Definitely worth watching.

Possibly the most famous DC animation.
This is great. I think Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker) voices The Joker in this one, though i haven't double checked and might be wrong.

Almost nailed it
Anyone familiar with the source material will appreciate how faithful an adaptation this is and in keeping with the majority of other Batman animated movies, this is excellently produced and voiced by fan favourites Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. The only issue I have with this movies is the first 30 minutes where original material has been shoehorned in to flesh out Batgirl's character and relationship with Batman..which I think is completely unnecessary. When you buy "The Killing Joke", you expect "The Killing Joke", not 30 minutes if fluff that actually has no relevance on the plot or is referenced again during the actual story. When the Killing Joke part kicks in, when Batman starts his "I came to talk" speech, the rest of the movie pretty much nails it and Mark Hamill steals the show (again).Fans of the original book will love how it's been brought to life but will also probably knock a star off for the first 30 minutes, anyone who isn't a fan of the original work will appreciate and live this for what it is, an excellent Batman story well made into a very good animated movie.

Grandiosa pelicula
