Home for the Holidays [DVD] [1995]

We bought this movie to have in our collection. We saw it many years ago! We lived in the U.S for over 12 yrs so can relate to the American humour too. We also relate to the idiosyncrasies that families have .... funny!

What I great movie, love the cast Downey Jr is fantastic as always. Had a smile on my face almost all the way through it So like going home to your own family at that time of year. would recommend it to anyone. Also the commentary by Jodie Foster was very cool to listen to.

I honestly didnt know about this film....being somewhat of a film nut !I saw part of it by chance when I turned on the MGM channel. A film about true family life when they ONLY seem to get together for the holidays !Finding out things they never knew...and bringing up OLD ghosts !!

What happens when a family get together for thanks giving. Great cast with a pretty good script.

A classic holiday movie about a perfectly disfunctional family that helps you put a different perspective on your own! It is fun to watch, touching and great entertainment with wonderful actors! Top marks!

Quite nice with some lovely bits

My daughter says this is a good film she loves robert Downey junior so wants to watch all the films he has been in. I haven't watched it so can't comment further

This has just been re-released. You could only get US Copies until recently so beware.So surprised it never took off in the UK. Very Funny.

Never know this is posted your view of the movie or of the physical CD. So here's both.The CD is a standard reproduction and plays fine. Movie is one of my absolute favorites because it catches the nuances of the hell of going home and being around your family. Just when you think you're an independent person, you go home and find out you're still a child. Robert Downey Junior is hands-down one of the best actors and even in this small role, he shines and makes a movie brilliant. I also think Cynthia Stevenson who plays the sister has been seriously downplayed in her role here. She is the one that you love to hate and does it so well that you forget that she is acting. Geraldine Chaplin is also stellar and represents the aunts that we all know and love. And yes, she is that Chaplin. Makes you wonder about the conversations Robert Downey Junior and her had before he ended up playing her grandfather.The only negative is the commentary by Jodie Foster that is included with the film. Obviously an afterthought and one that she didn't feel like doing.Brilliant movie.

Ich schaue diesen Film einmal im Jahr, und zwar immer um die Weihnachtszeit. Erzählt wird die Geschichte der Familie Larson,die zu Thanksgiving zudammenfindet. Und das sehr liebevoll und mit gutem Humor. Ich mag besonders die Beziehung zwischen Claudia und ihrem Bruder. Witzig ist auch die Tante, die schon ein wenig verdreht ist. Die Handlung des Films im einzelnen will und kann ich gar nicht wiedergeben. Es wird halt einfach mal so auf eine typische amerikanische Familie in irgendeinem amerikanischen Kleinstadtnest die Kamera drauf gehalten.Ein wenig angestaubt ist der Film wohl schon, aber ich schau ihn immer noch gerne und er wird weiter mein Weihnachtsfilm bleiben.

Definitely not for everyone, and why should it be? Off the beaten path and full of flawed characters, just like us.

Ich liebe diesen Film über die kleinen und großen Schwierigkeiten einer Familie!Holly Hunter, Robert Downey....muß man nochmehr dazu schreiben?Für jeden der Filme über zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen liebt, empfehle ich diesen Film!
