Bombon El Perro DVD

Brilliant movie
This is a brilliant, low budget movie. The actors are amateurs who play under their real names. The dog Bonbón is not trained to play in a movie, but just does what dogs do. This makes the movie very natural. It is set in Argentina and is about the friendship between a poor, lonely, divorced man and his dog. The dog is given to him and is a potential prize-winner. Emotional at times. Very realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed it and so have all the people I lend the movie to.

Understated, and insightful through an artistic eye - superb
This is a fabulous film, very understated, which gives you a real insight into the Patagonian environment and landscape. The director used ordinary people rather than professional actors although I think the main character is a professional. There's a gentle humour to the film and a poignant sadness too but it's a happy ending, if you agree with that sort of thing. This is one film I am happy to watch time and time again.

Beautifully charming film
I first saw this film ten years or more ago on the telly (my only time of watching it before obtaining this DVD) and had always had fond memories of it, and especially of Juan Villegas – the main actor and (same name) main character and of his new found friend, Bombón (el perro).Juan, even though he is down on his luck has a smile that is ever present while the potentially fierce Bombón just seems to look on ever placid, and although it is a film where not a great deal happens in a way, it is an imensly enjoyable film, and one definitely worth watching again. On the DVD you get:“Bombón el Perro” (1 hour 33 minutes) (Embedded English Subtitles)Scene SelectionNotes on El Perro (20 minutes) (Embedded English Subtitles)Making Of (14 minutes) (Not subtitled)Trailer (Embedded English Subtitles)Trailers for other releases

Shaggy dog story
A very funny gem of a film if you are looking for an antidote to the latest repackaged Hollywood rom-com. In the big bleak country of Argentine patagonia, this is the story of the little guy who gets just a bit bigger with the help of a very large Dogo Argentino (which is a breed actually banned in the UK for its ferocity). Wonderful photography and tremendous Spanish machismo mix with a very funny deadpan script - buy it.

Life affirming
Great film making and direction. Superb casting and perfectly pitched tone in this gentle comedy about Argentina during the big depression. Something about how being good and gentle brings rewards.

For Dogo Argentino lovers
The story itself is quite simplistic and sweet and flows reasonably well. However I feel if you have no interest in Dogo Argentino's especially or dogs in general, it wouldn't be a must see. Also I figured there would be more scenic shots of Patagonia, but no and I hoped there would be a bit of insight in to the dogs used in the film in the 'special features' but the Director etc just gave a brief insight in to the film. So on the whole it's an ok film, If you find that you have 93mins to spare you could do worse than put it on, I'd give the film 3 stars for dog lovers and 1 star less if you're not.

A Charming Story
Enjoy an evening in with this charming film. An out of work man's life is changed when he is given a dog. Unknown to him the dog is a pedigree who could do well in dog shows and the story goes on to portray how much his life is changed. A feel good movie.

Eavesdropping on real life
A beautiful film. We feel we are eavesdropping on real life - the little man down on his luck, who takes on a very large brute of a dog, inappropriately named 'Sweetie'....... The film has a really authentic feel - partly because no professional ACTORS were used! Sad and funny and uplifting.

Super Film
