Great product.
The good:This item is really good. The blades are long enough to cut multiple sheets in one go. I cut Styrofoam sheets and I cut 6 at-a-time now. Unlike other cheaper cutting tools, the blade heats up and stays that way to make cuts as fast as you want without much cooling. The temperature slider-selector is nice to change the heat and you barely use it half-way. Yes, it has a trigger button (like a gun) that you press to start heating, which is not a bad feature as it heats up really quick. The bad:The price of $200+ seems way too high? The product is made in China. So why is it so expensive? Does it have a PID temperature controller? But then, it is certainly a professional product of professional quality. I wish I had bought this earlier. Its price had kept me away.Dec 2020: This item is still going great! I use it once every 3 weeks or so, and it works just like new. Very happy!

Cuts foam and stubs wigs like a boss. A definite must for any armor-crafting cosplayer.
This thing is a an awesome tool and a great alternative to cutting foam with a bunch of utility knives for crafting weapons and armor for cosplay. Highly recommended. I would cut outside or a well-ventilated area when using this tool since melted foam releases bad smells.Edit: I tried this for stubbing my wig and it works very well!

We have been VERY happy with the Hot Knifes
We purchased two of these Hot Knifes and have used it on several big project. We have been VERY happy with the Hot Knifes. After a few big projects it has performed well. The only part of the knife after heavy use is the blade and that is to be expected. The case is great to use, a really quality product.

Cuts like butter
I was using and box cutter and hack saw blade prior to this unit. This works extremely well cutting 4 and 8 lb foam 3" thick very well. If you take your time, correctly dial in the heat and clean your blades after use this unit will last a long time and make perfect perpendicular cuts to the surface very well. cutting circles is a bit more complicated due to the wide blade but can be done efficiently and cleanly if you take your time.

Extremely disappointed and a waste of time...
I purchased this hot knife to finish a crafting project that I'm trying to get done by the end of the month. This item was shipped to me in small box which just had the case holding the knife/blades/etc. There was no tape or anything like that on the case which made me wonder if this item had been opened before. The knife and other components were loose inside the case which seemed rather poor on the manufacturer's part. After easily assembling the blades and turning the knife on nothing happened. No heat, no current, nothing. The indicator light wouldn't even go on. I tried taking the blades on and off three times (even trying the other blade) thinking I might be doing something wrong but it became obvious that this knife was completely defective and nothing more than a $170 paperweight.I contacted the company's customer service and it took two days for them to respond. I expressed the urgency of getting a new knife right away and that I would ship this other one back but they started dragging out the process and refused to send another without charging me again or until they received the defective knife. Needless to say I am no longer going to deal with this terrible company and am just going to send the knife back and go elsewhere for one.*** I URGE STRONG CAUTION TO THOSE WHO ATTEMPT TO BUY FROM THIS COMPANY - THEY SEND DEFECTIVE ITEMS AND HAVE VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! ***

Made In China - 15 seconds at a time only.
This was bought about 18 months ago for very infrequent usage, once or twice per week for a few moments at a time to cut some webbing. I thought I had bought the top quality tool that would last a long time. We used it the other day to cut several pieces at once to build up stock. It made it through about a dozen cuts, then died. During examination, I noticed that there is a small label that says to use it for 15 seconds at a time only. And another that says Made in China. For the money, I expected neither of these. My fault for not noticing, but I wouldn't consider buying another one. You can get this kind of quality for a lot less money.

Worked just fine but how they justify the cost is beyond me
Worked just fine but how they justify the cost is beyond me. This is a foam cutter and the foam-lined case it was in doesn't even hold the tool firmly and it just rattles around in it. Way too much money for what you get.

Its a heat knife and it will cut MOST foam, maybe even almost all
Im giving this a 4 star and not a 3 based on the product not being able to perform the way i wanted it too. Its not the products fault, as a heat knife this will cut through SOME foam like a hot knife through butter, others it has to be slow drawn out cuts and trying to get the settings right without having a fire or no cuts at all is difficult. Could just be be but my thinking was hot+knife+foam=cut foam but for 1" closed cell foam its a pain in the but to cut, for anything else im sure it just whips right through!!
