Good little book
I havenโt had this book long but it has answered my immediate questions. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. The illustrations arenโt glossy or fancy but they are helpful.

Everything African Violet
I don't really consider myself an African Violet grower. I buy them at the grocery store and the do really well in my bathroom. However, I do have some I really like which are getting "leggy" and I wanted to know what to do about it. This book has all the information I wanted and probably more.

Very pleased!!
I grow hundreds of violets, I'm experienced but always searching for something new and better to learn. I find this little book very informative and well written! The types, history, hybrids (incl. the list & tips for some variants), cultivation, reproduction, tips & tricks, pests - it's all here.I guess if you ever happen to seriously grow african violets or have some of them on the window sills, this book is will tell you everything you need to know for successful keeping these pretty little plants! :)

A relatively useful book, but with some important deficits
This is a reasonable book on the theme of growing African violets (Saintpaulia), which covers most of the major aspects of growing these fascinating, beautiful and ever popular plants. It deals comprehensively with the basics for new and experienced growers alike, including temperature and light requirements, compost, propagation and pests and diseases, and has some informative line illustrations which are useful in demonstrating various processes of cultivation. There are also many beautiful colour photographs.Nevertheless, there are a number of problems with this book which mean that it can never be considered as the definitive work on Saintpaulias. As a plant fanatic who also appreciates an informative and entertaining read - or, in other words, a book that you can take to bed with you, or that will absorb and inform on a rainy afternoon spent lounging on the sofa - this is disappointingly brief, and the writing style is often "stuffy" and offputting. The authors frequenty and irritatingly use the first person plural ("we"), and fascinating aspects of the Saintpaulia genus such as botany, ecology and conservation (all of which are of interest to serious growers and casual hobbyists alike) are barely touched upon.In addition, too much space in the book is taken up with a somewhat pointless, un-illustrated list of varieties, room that would have been more effectively utilised in the manner detailed above. I have to point out too that this is not a recent book and therefore does not reflect recent developments in Saintpaulia breeding. Finally, in the list of suppliers of plants at the back of the book, I was surprised and puzzled to find no mention of the world famous, UK based Dibleys Nursery, one of the best known suppliers of African violets both in Britain and around the world.
