Great read, highly recommended!
Wow, what a great read! Caro Ramsay has become my favorite author and I have 2 more books of hers to read, yay! Highly recommended, just loved it.

Thrilling crime fiction
One of the best crime fiction novels I have read. The story line is fast moving with twists and turns that keep you glued to reading until the climax and then the tie ups at the end. I enjoyed 'Singing to the Dead', the previous novel by Caro Ramsey, and look forward to catching up with her engaging main characters of DI Anderson & DS Costello in her next novel. My only regret is not finding her novels before now!

Solid
Ramsay isn't the best British crime writer around, but her novels are well plotted and engaging. Her main characters in particular are interesting and likeable, and on the plus side the UST isn't between a fifty something male copper and his thirty something female offsider, which I find tedious.

A mystery/thriller with a twist
Great read. I bought it on the basis of a review from the Mainely Murders website and was glad I did.

More than just decent
The first Caro Ramsay I read was 'Absolution' and I hated it so much that I would never have touched another one of her books if, misled by some rave reviews, I hadn't bought three right the first time. You can imagine then that 'Dark Water' slept untouched on my shelves for quite some time. And very recently I thought I simply had to try again if only to throw them in the bin if they proved as distressingly awful as 'Absolution'. So you can imagine my surprise when I found out that this one was very different and a perfectly respectable book. Mac Alpine was gone for good and it was a lot easier to read about and like DI Anderson and DS Costello who are far better characters anyway. Add to that a decent police enquiry and although it is easy to realise in the end who 'the forensicaly aware 'one is, 'Dark Water' was nevertheless a very decent reading experience. The only thing I would say to authors is to stop putting squeaky clean characters in their stories. Those always turn out to be the ones who did it and the reader knows that simply by noting the over emphasis on their impeccable backgrounds.

Characters that are quickly growing on me!
The third instalment set in Glasgow with DS Costello and DS Anderson and their team at Patrick Hill Station. This time round, we see a little more team spirit with the Superintendent - although Quinn still knows she is an outsider. Quinn once more gives us a great insight into the relationships at play in Patrick Hill Station.Dark Water starts out with the death of a small time criminal and finishes up with Anderson and Costello solving not just one, but several crimes. They work their way seamlessly from Glasgow's rough crime underbelly up to the glamorous and privileged existence of Scotland's favourite thespian and her family. In the course of the investigation, they learn as much about themselves - Anderson where he's going and Costello where she's coming from! In the end, it is the questions that Costello has been afraid to ask which provide the most provoking and revealing answers of all.A satisfying crime novel with characters that are really beginning to feel like they've been around a long time - in the nicest possible way!

Her in depth knowledge is very good and it is a treat to be able to ...
Another superb story from Caro Ramsey. Full of intrigue, I could not stop reading it. The housework can wait until tomorrow! Her in depth knowledge is very good and it is a treat to be able to identify the areas in and around Glasgow. Mind you the weather was treacherous in this book and so was the plot! Have downloaded The Blood of Crows but must get house cleaned first because I know she will have written another best seller and I will be hooked once more.

Another winner for tartan noire
I read this in one sitting, a really good police procedural with strong characters and a complex plot. An easy to read writer who manages to get you involved with her detectives and both their personal and professional lives. The plot's been covered by other reviewers so I won't bother going over it again.I've enjoyed all three of Caro Ramsays books and along with Alex Gray she's puting Glasgow detectives on the crimefighting map.

An excellent read.
Ms Ramsay's books get better and better, just when you think you've read her best, along comes another one. This instalment of the Anderson and Costello series is very deep, I couldn't put it down. I didn't see the end coming at all.I hope this series runs for a very long time, if it does I'll be a very happy bunny.
