The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu (1980) - Region 2 PAL

I rated this 4 stars because "I like it!" and purchased it on the streaming service. I was pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the download - it's not High Def but perfectly adequate Standard Def presentation.As to the film - blessed as we are by living in a more enlightened age - there is plenty of criticism that could be directed towards the portrayal of ethic groups. However, it is a COMEDY so there is a degree of satire here, not to be taken seriously folks!Being a fan of the classic radio series The Goon Show - there is plenty of Goonish humour and irreverence that is pure Sellers/Milligan. It would also be worth watching the telegoons episode "The Terrible Revenge of Fred Fu Manchu" which is available to view on YouTube.And for me at least some laugh out loud moments. I do not find it sad that this was Sellers last film - as he was able to make his stage exit with a funny voice and an outrageous disguise that was his trademark.

Okay so I was hit by a car and have been languishing for weeks and suddenly thought about films I saw as a kid. This film is an important (good grief why?). It may not be a Peter Sellers great but Helen Mirim is in it - guess what playing a Queen! How many times has she played a queen now?It has a quest, foiling a dastardly plan and you know what the good guys do not win... but there is a reprieve at the end. Okay Peter Sellers plays two rolls one you might consider a bit racist and question why there was not an Asian lead. But suspend reality for a bit and just don't get bogged down.Its a little pricey so I mean if unless you are a harden Sellers fan - I dunno what to say. When to watch a rainy afternoon off so and you are wanting to snigger at the cinema of the past... it is a comedy and if you stop thinking for a the length of the film you will have a good time.

it,s sad that this was to be peter sellers last film outing, its not one of the best to end on, as he intended to do right after this one, the romance of the pink panther, which would have been the six film in that film series, but died of a fatal heart attack just before this one came out in cinema,s back in 1980, which he did not get to see this film for him self on the big screen, this dvd is a region 2 import with english sound and the picture is in the 1.85.1 widescreen frame, for a peter sellers fan you need this dvd in your film set.

Nowhere near as bad as the critics said, it may not have had the pretentious cod-philosophy of Sellers' next-to-last film but this true swansong is better representative of the great comedian's career. It is is daft, puerile slapstick and it made me laugh.

peter sellers not actually at his best but still very funny in parts .plot is a bit thin on the ground and supporting actors do a fair job but its not what id call one of sellers best probably let down by the script to be honest

Great entertainment, very silly, classic Peter Sellers. Helen Mirren is good fun, sending herself up. A too often missed classic.

Ich wollte, ich hätte den Film nie bestellt. Dann wäre mir P. Sellers in guter Erinnerung geblieben.So sieht man ihm wiklich die Krankheit hat.Der Film selbst ist Geschmackssache....Irgendwie hatte ich den Eindruck, dass "echte" Ende fehlt. Vielleicht wegen des todkranken P. Sellers.
