A decent compass
There are positives and negatives here. The positives are that it is compact. Everything folds away well. The build quality overall is good and the tool is durable. The only negative I can think of is lead protractor. The button is the clip and it is really hard for me to push as an adult. My 4th grader can't push it. I am not sure if it is just this unit or all of the compasses are like this. I would avoid this for young children.

All the quality I've come to expect from Mr. Pen
Before I even say anything about the actual compass - I _love_ the packaging. No adhesive. No sealed plastic that I need a utility knife to open.. just slide. Seriously, why isn't everything packaged like this. Also, next to no wasted space. I continue to be impressed with each new product I get from this company. So, I've handled hundreds of compasses in my classroom over the years - from painfully cheap to expensively elaborate. At under $6, this is a pretty decent compass. The innovative lead advancement and fold & slide needle are nice. The cap both protects the lead from breaking and ensures the arms stay closed when stored. The latter may help with survival in a pencil case by preventing the legs from getting caught or bending out of true.My only concern is with the plastic needle mount. Mine is rather loose in it's attachment when slid back into the leg. When moving the compass between tests, it slid back down and was loose. This made it bend and twist in that next usage as I hadn't noticed it had slid forward. It only happened that one time, but I can't tell if it was user error or just a fluke. Anyway... That raises a possible issues - will that usage when it's not 'secure' damage/break the mount as its made of plastic? I would have loved to see a metal needle mount, but at this price point - I'm actually really surprised how much metal there is.Anyway, now that I'm aware that the needle might slide back forward, it's really not an issue in my usage. I will be curious to see how long it handles middle school student usage though.

Missing leads, needs better factory packaging and instructions
The factory packaging is not secure, just a plastic cover tucked inside the edge of the card backing. Both the compass and the leads had fallen out in the box and the leads were missing. Eventually I discovered there was a short piece of lead inside the pencil but no instructions on how to extend it. You have to use a screwdriver or other instrument to pop out the pocket securer and then push the lead container down to extend the little piece of lead.

Great for crafting
I like this little compass because the color is cool, and it comes with lead refills. It does exactly exactly what it should. It’s very handy when you’re trying to make perfect circles for your projects. The only negative would be it is kind of flimsy, I’m probably not too durable long-term. That being said, it’s still good for the purpose of making circles.

Handy when cutting round holes
Small and handy tool. I am going to use it for marking round holes in cement boards. It is much easier and more precise than using random round objects like roll of tape or round lid of can from peanuts :)
