The name brand version of these components is so expensive that I've never bought one. So I can't do a side by side comparison.The motor itself is very responsive. It seems to have a good amount of torque. Just sitting on the table, it can twist itself around when you turn it on. It can run in either direction, but only at a single speed which is pretty fast. A speed controller would have been nice.The lights are white and there's only two of them. They perform the same whether the power switch is in the forward or backward position. There's no blinking.The switch is pretty simple. You can trigger it from the side with a rotational motion or from the top with a back and forth linear motion.The batter containery is OK. It's got some nice attachment points. The plastic feels cheap and flimsy though, especially the battery compartment doors. There are doors on both sides, it takes a total of 6 AA batteries. There's only one switch and one power attachment point, but you can stack things in such a way that the main power switch controls one device and the auxiliary switch the other.This doesn't come with any gears or axles, you'll need those to connect these in any way.

No, it's not 'official' Lego items but anyone who's a Lego enthusiast know that the official Lego motors and lights are very expensive. So this is the perfect alternative. The battery box takes 3 batteries and runs with a decent bit of power. There's no real frills to this motor set, it runs on one speed and the lights are either on or off, but there's no fault being taken here - this is exactly what it says it is - and it fits Lego!

The official power functions can be pricey and only in a handful of official sets. Having this alternative helps more people play around with these motors.In my experience, they have been working well and with no issues. The connection is solid with no hiccups as well as the brick connection.I would recommend this if you want to try out power functions, it has been very interesting in my opinion.

My daughter lost it when I gave her this moto/light/switch combo kit. She has really gotten into legos and this will add some depth to her creations. The technic aspect is something we haven't done a lot with, but I'm sure she'll start figuring out creative ways to use the motor. Every fit well and while the quality might not be "lego" it is about 95% there.
