Hands down, this is "the one" to read if you're looking for a career change or want a useful, practical way to understand a) what your career goals are and, b) how to achieve them. But I would go even further by saying that this would be helpful to anyone, at any stage, in any career as it makes you break down the elements of what work is and how you can use your skills -- or acquire new ones -- and find the best fit for you in this vast world of jobs, companies, and professional passions. The author breaks it all down into a manageable, easy, entertaining read with real-world case studies and fun self-assessment tools. This book was an eye-opening experience. Highly recommend.

Take the time to invest in this book
If you grew up loving choose your own adventure books as a child AND you're thinking about how to build a meaningful career, this book is for you. The key is in doing the work and actually trying the unorthodox exercises that Dev recommends. You'll find that despite the title of the book, it's not necessarily about getting a job as much as it is about being intentional about constructing a fulfilling life. Thanks for the wake up call.

A new, innovative way to search for a job
What a useful and different job finding book! I really liked the approach to analyzing what works best for you, instead of just using the old tried-and-true methods of job searching. The part about trying to understand your own rhythm of working and leisure was really useful. Why don't people ever point out that certain times of your life (when you have a young family or are going through hard stuff) might dictate that you have a job with a slower rhythm?Another great idea? Record yourself in a stressful situation. Actually record yourself with your phone. Then you can listen to it later and realize that you really sounded pretty OK - not the total disaster that you had imagined. These are really useful, concrete, positive methods of changing your life by finding the job that's just right for you.

50 Ways To Find A Job offers invaluable advice on how to navigate the job market and find a job that with a mission that speaks to the job seeker. But it doesn’t stop there. It gives the reader the opportunity to go deeper and consider work as an extension of life – not merely a means to an end to pay bills. In the gig economy, more of us are experiencing a non-linear career path. It affords us the opportunities to be life-long learners, but our resumes don’t always make sense to employers. 50 Ways To Find A Job addresses this head on by encouraging those of us who have traversed through several industries to figure out the larger narrative that has shaped our professional choices to make sense to hiring managers. I highly recommend this book to any professional looking for a courageous path forward.- Shana Dressler, Former Executive Director of Google’s 30 Weeks

Best Modern Career Book Out There
Hands down the best career book I've read in years. Why? 50 Ways doesn't just tell you 'Why' you should do things but provides the 'How'. It does this in terms that make a career change feel manageable and makes you feel understood in a modern era of job hunting. The book proves that finding purpose and work you love is as much managing the practical emotions around change as the steps of networking then putting a resume and cover letter together.I couldn't recommend this book more, it personally helped me find a job that I would never think of my dream job but now understand it's exactly what I needed at this point in my life. I plan to read again when I feel the need to shift my career and have already purchased for my family and friends.

The author brings a wealth of insight and experience to a critical topic: finding meaningful work that you love. The author approaches the topic with fresh eyes and offers a great balance of theory and practical advice to actually get you going. Most importantly, this isn't just about finding work - it's about taking control and defining a unique and personally meaningful career path. Bite-sized, practical ideas on how to re-think career goals - I'm buying copies for mid-career friends
A helpful, practical little book on not just "getting a job" but on how to re-think your career goals including work-life balance. I'm going to buy a few copies for a career counsellor and a friend who is contemplating a career change. The book is wide ranging and includes sections such as finding your purpose, learning new skills, and applying for jobs. I particularly liked the section on networking which includes chapters such as "map a network" and "reconnect with five mentors from your past". Helpful tips in today's world when word-of-mouth and personal connections are a far more effective way to land a job than the bygone era when we sent resumes blindly into the night. The chapters are short and sweet (just a few pages each) with bite-sized exercises to nudge one towards catalyzing action. In addition to the print copy, I bought the audiobook through Audible and liked the narration style.
