The Complete Meteor Rockabilly and Hillbilly Recordings

For Rockabilly music this is a MUST !!!!!!!!!!!!! All of the labels out put and unreleased tracks.if you have never heard "Raw Deal" or " Get with it" then you have missed two of the most Classic Rockabilly recordings ever!!Some Hillbilly and Country but mainly full on REAL GONE ROCKABILLY. For me this label gave Sun Records a run for its money.

This is one of those where you have to read the small print closely. It does say "rockabilly & hillbilly recordings" so it's only too likely that it's going to feature quite a lot of the latter. And it does. I have to say that a lot of the hillbilly, particularly in the very early tracks, is filled with fiddles and nasal singing and consequently is reeking of authenticity, and, it has to be said, some charm. If this is your turn-on then the set is well worth investigating.But if you're looking for rockabilly there's not a terrific amount here. Head and shoulders above the other tracks is the double A sider from Charlie Feathers, "Get with it / Tongue tied Jill". Two absolute classic tracks but unfortunately (for this set and for Ace) they appear in many other compilations now that they're in the public domain. In addition to this we do get decent tracks from Jess Hooper, Brad Suggs and Wayne McGinnis. Add on a few bits like one side of the Mary Edwards, one side of the Velvetones and a few more and that's about it.One excellent touch is the sequencing which seems to be almost all in order of the actual releases. It's good to see that someone (and it would be Ace) cares enough to bother to get the tracks in sensible order. I'm basing my review on previews so haven't got my mitts on the actual double CD but from what I read on Ace's web site the notes look as if they're well up to their usual high standard.I'd see this set as more for the died in the wool collector rather than the casual buyer or the rockabilly fan. But in a way it's great that Ace care enough to release this material. I know I'm repeating myself but there aren't that many labels that care.

Fantastic collection of hillbilly country and rockabilly. Junior Thompson, Charlie Fethers and Steve Carl. Blacksmith Blues by Steve Carl with the Jags is just an increadible rockabilly song.

What a great collection of super rare rockabilly and hillbilly tunes we have here. Way worth the money. Some of my personal favorites are as follows: Charlie Feather's "Get With It" Bill Bowen's " Don't Shoot Me Baby" Jess Hooper's All Messed Up" Brad Suggs With the Swingters "Charcoal Suit". So if you are at all interested in the Sun Studios Rockabilly Recordings, then you MUST check out these awesome gems.

Fairly good cd collection of mostly old time country tunes, and not so much rockabilly. Yes, yes I know, rockabilly stemmed some from country, but too much country for my taste. The other cd collection from Metoer was better.
