Scarlet DarknessWomen Renaissance Dress Underbust Medieval Pirate Pesant Overdress

This brand of costume apparel is unbeatable for the style, quality and price. The fabric is beautiful and has a good weight, color was as expected (I’d call it dark olive/army green) found no frays or bad stitching, has pockets that lie flat, sizing is accurate, and the fit and overall adjustability are an added plus. For reference I’m 5’-7” tall, a curvy 199 lbs, large busted 40DDD/E, normally wear a 16/16W, XL-XXL. I ordered the 2X based upon reviews and size chart. (Excuse the slouch in photo, it was not a good representation of the fit and shows my dreaded rolls!) Because I was limited on time, I wore a long maxie/peasant skirt as well a a lined silky style peasant blouse I already had in my closet. If I have an opportunity to wear again, I’ll purchase a thinner cotton/muslin style blouse or under dress. The over dress does arrive in a smaller plastic zip style bag and will be wrinkled. I started with a steamer and it was working but would take too long with the limited water reservoir on my steamer, so I ironed it on a medium high steam setting with a pressing cloth to prevent leaving a shine on the fabric.This a a quality piece and is not a cheap costume style item. I can see myself wearing this as part of other costumes besides a renaissance/woodland fairy. Could easily be used as part of a german bar maid or milk maid costume by simply changing the clothes you wear under this. I plan to machine wash on gentle cycle in a garment bag to protect the shoulder ties and front lacing for adjustment, and hang to dry. Great quality, I highly recommend!

This outer layer is perfect for adding that pop of color over a ruffly base dress. The fit is great, especially since the threading in the middle and the straps can be adjusted. I didn’t notice until after unthreading it the first time that there is a zipper on the side for easy dressing/undressing. Also…… IT HAS POCKETS. I will be coming back for more colors, which seems pretty true to the photos. The price is well worth it. In fact, I bought two other items from this same brand and they don’t miss. Great quality.

I used this as an over-dress for my mushroom Ren Faire outfit and it was not only attractive but comfortable too! (Underdress is also Scarlet Darkness and purchased here on Amazon) It feels like a high-quality garment, was well fitting and I appreciate the side zipper. I do wish that the buttons on front were actually functional and not just decorative. I also really like the color- more of a brick red. I plan to wear this multiple times!

I wore this with another Scarlet Darkness top, and a 25yd bellydance full skirt, and the outfit brought me so much joy at the renaissance faire! Previous years I've gone with any old white camisole and corset I've tried to match, but not fitting it anymore and the faire being much, much warmer this year I wanted something more comfortable and easier to move in, while also heading toward a more "true" garb look.This shade of yellow is a more mustard, and I loved the contrast to my very bright, sunny yellow skirt. I paired it with light brown leather and "leather" accents as well. The construction of the overdress is pretty nice! The front laces and there is a side zipper, so getting it over your head and bust is a bit easier for those with less mobility or flexibility who don't necessarily want to unlace it completely still. It has a light linen feel, with the classic slight crepe texture. It has pockets! (though one of mine did have the seam pop inside the pocket, which I know others have had some seam issues too)It also washes nicely, just gets a little wrinkly but irons easily with a warm to hot iron

Dress was super cute and comfy but it came ripped from a loose seem. I would have returned it but needed it for a function and couldn’t get a new one in time due to supply shortage. Messaged the company but never got any response.Recommend buying but make sure you know how to sew to fix any stitches.

I dress up a lot for many different occasions and this has been one of my favorite finds. The zipper gets a little tricky, but fits true to size.
