Well researched, intelligent analysis
An excellent companion to Mr. Bishop's book on Okinawan Karate. Like his previous work, this book makes a detailed and objective investigation into the history and development of Okinawan weaponry and kobudo. Rather than relying on the romanticized tales often spun pitting noble Okinawan peasants against oppressive samurai overlords, Bishop takes a starkly realistic approach. Ultra traditionalists may gasp at some of the theories presented, but the arguments are well researched and well supported. If you are looking for a practical, common sense discussion of Okinawan weaponry, BUY THIS BOOK.

Where did that weapon come from?
My favorite part of the book is how the author backs up his theory of where and how the weapons came about based on facts right from Okanawain culture and from the Sensei perspectives. It is so full of information.

Good, but...
Some great info here but boy, this book sure could have used some more editing. The amount of typos and spelling mistakes are disappointing from such an esteemed author.

Chock full of information
Even better in some ways that Bishop's earlier books, this one is packed with little-known information and background on the development and use of Okinawan weapons. A "must have" for serious Kobudo students.

Some useful titbits but the authors spends quite some time grinding his personal axes about the model of classifying Okinawan arts (te vs tode) that he favours; time which could be more fruitfully spent. Many of the photographs are interesting, but a lot are not at all clear or well arranged.

Nice history of Okinanwan weapons
I got this more out of interest in unusual weapons then the history and there certainly were a few I had not heard of before. A couple of nunchuck and staff variations that I had not seen look very interesting. The history side looks to be very well covered with lots of examples of who used what and when and theorys on the origins. As for hidden methods, theres not really any instruction on how to use anything, only stuff on what the weapon may have been used for or how it was concealed.

Libro de historia
Es un buen libro de historia aunque no especifica escuelas, es un poco generalista.Aunque no estรก mal, es aconsejable.
