The Definitive Collection

There are so many Kinks collections out there that it is really a problem to know which to buy. Try Definitive Collection - all original recordings - really. Over 26 tracks covering all of their early singles other than Something Better Beginning (left off of most compilations for some reason). What makes this collection so good is the time period covered (1964-1983). You kick it off with You Really Got Me and get a couple of less compiled tracks like Stop Your Sobbing and Where Have All The Good Times Gone. Like some compilations you also get Death of a Clown and Susanna's Still Alive - Dave Davies solo tracks. Then on to Days, Victoria and Plastic Man. But we aren't done yet. Lola and Apeman marked the Kinks return to the charts in a big way in 1970. The last two tracks come from another comeback in 1982 with Come Dancing - one of the early MTV successes that kept them in front of US audiences for several more years and Don't Forget To Dance - perhaps one of Ray Davies most touching ballads (he wrote a lot of them didn't he). Best value and best collection.As a footnote, you might check out The Kinks Greatest Hits on Bellaphon (1993 release - all original studio recordings) which jumps all over the place but does contain early essentials like You Really Got Me, Tired of Waiting, Well Respected Man and Set Me Free plus Sunny Afternoon and Dead End Street before jumping forward in time to Lola, Apeman, Celluloid Heroes (studio version), Come Dancing, Don't Forget To Dance and a later period favorite - Rock N' Roll Fantasy. Buy both.

Love the oldies

A really good collection, no "fillers" just all the hits that the Kinks had in the 60's & the 70's.For anyone who likes the Kinks music ,this collection is a must have.besides having no fillers ,all the songs are original recordings & also includes 'death of a clown', which we all know is not actually a Kinks hit.again I purchased a used cd & it was perfectly playable & a lot cheaper.

A nice selection of songs from a time when good music and songwriting mattered. This collection is great for anyone who loves the sounds of the 60's & 70's.

Loved the kinks i had most of their music on tapes, cds are essier to handle and last better even when played often.
