There's something ridiculously appealing about these college ballers and the gals they fall for. They may be young, but the characters are layered, authentic, and so endearing I can’t get enough! I’ve been dying for Billy's story since we first met him, and wow, oh wow, this guy is one big swoony surprise!This is a college romance, so there's plenty of drama. The drama starts when college cheerleader and the football coach's daughter, Roxi Santos, finds out she’s pregnant. And by the biggest player and worst liar on campus who's now engaged and wants nothing to do with a baby.This is where our awesome Billy comes in. He's Roxi's best friend and he offers to step up. He knows it doesn’t bode well for his football career since Coach Santos seems to hate Billy, but he cares about Roxi and won’t let her go through things alone. This guy easily owned my heart and is my new fave from Lone Star State.I love this one so much! The characters we meet at the beginning are so different by the end, and watching them grow and become stronger, better versions of themselves is a sight to behold. Of course, I enjoyed catching up with old friends and seeing some of them in a new light (looking at you, Coach). There's plenty of turmoil and angst, but it's authentic and effortlessly relatable.Roxi and Billy show us that life can be messy and people are complicated, but love and commitment can win in the end. Sweet, charming and heartfelt but humorous, steamy and inspiring, you won’t want to miss this quintessential young adult romance

Billy and Roxy's story was beautifully written, completely entrancing, and super surprising.While I always adored their friendship, I did have my doubts about Billy and his ability to be a one-woman man. I never should have worried though. From the moment their story started he was protective, loyal, encouraging, sweet, and so darn swoony I could hardly stand it.I admired how strong and resilient Roxy was. She had sass and fire, and I was in awe of how she could stand up for herself.Their story was everything I had hoped for and more.Make sure to grab the extra scene.It was the perfect way to finish off their story.

After getting a glimpse of Billy and Roxy in the previous book, I was so excited for their story. Billy's adoration for Roxy was clear from the start ❤️The progression from friends to lovers was beautiful, and Billy's protective nature towards Roxy and her baby melted my heart.🥺❤️Roxy's resilience was truly admirable, especially in dealing with her less-than-desirable sperm donor and her father's initial reaction. Thankfully, Billy was there for her every step of the way!!I also loved that Billy realized that he deserved and was capable of being in a loving relationship! He kept putting himself down and it broke my heart to see how little he thought of himself!I cannot wait for the next book!!

Wow, just wow! I just love, love, love, Billy and Roxy! Even though in his past, Billy was a player he shows that he is now the most kind, caring, loving, loyal person around. How could you not fall in love with him? Roxy has been used and discarded by the evil Ezra. Talk about a total piece of work and his picture shows up. Even though her father is tough he is supporting and loving. Billy’s father not so much. Marley enters the picture and their life turns upside down again. It is the roller coaster of their life. Can’t wait to see what happens next Since all the side characters are amazing as well.

I knew Billy was going to be the best!! He had that aloof, goofball, never serious attitude in Jake and Charlie’s story. I loved him then and love him even more now that I’ve read his story. You could tell how much Billy loved Roxy before this story, but it showed from the very beginning in this book. Billy is the guy that most girls want in their lives. The one that is goofy, protective, and very caring. I think Roxy loved Billy long before she realized it. Sometimes it takes us awhile to figure out the meaning of the way the people around us make us feel. I’m so in love with Billy and Roxy’s story.

I always think "will I have anything in common with the 20 somethings when I am not in the age range?" and every time Lex gives me fun, complex characters who aren't just out drinking and partying.This follows Roxy and Billy. Roxy is a spunky collage cheerleader and the daughter of the football coach, but she has big dreams to become a sports broadcast reporter. But she finds herself pregnant by the jerk quarterback.Billy is the 6'2 tatted up bad boy who was always playing around, but has become friends with Roxy. He finds out she is pregnant and wants to help her. So he pretends to be the baby daddy and fake boyfriend. To say Coach is upset is an understatement!But what starts out as pretend soon develops into much more!I loved watching Billy and Roxie's relationship development. He turns into such a giving and understanding partner and it totally made me MELT!I also loved how understanding and supportive Roxie was of Billy's football dreams.Since I love pregnancy trope it was so cool to see Roxy's pregnancy progress and then how she coped with postpartum. It was scarily accurate. Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved Billy and Roxy's story. I liked the glimpses of Billy in previous books in this series so I was looking forward to his story and it did not disappoint. He might have taken the title of best book boyfriend - he was so sweet, caring, and protective of Roxy and her baby. He is also not shy about saying what he thinks and there were some great scenes between him and Roxy once they took their relationship to the next (spicy) level.I really liked the way Roxy and Billy's friendship developed into so much more. He stepped up for her when she needed him and Roxy was able to support him and push him to achieve his full capabilities.Another aspect of the story that I appreciated was the way it showed the toll that having a baby can take on a relationship instead of making everything out to be sunshine and roses because the couple were in love. I don't want to give away any spoilers but it was refreshing to have the warts and all side of things instead of an unrealistic romanticised version. I was still glad when Roxy and Billy managed to resolve their issues and, of course, it ends with a happy ever after so don't be put off!I have loved every book in this series and raced through this in a day as I couldn't bear to put it down. Now I will have to hang on for the next book!

I loved this book and was completely hooked right from the first page. I’ve always liked Billy whenever he was mentioned in the previous books and I was so happy that he got his own story. Roxy is also an incredible main character, she was an amazing best friend in the previous book and I’ve been waiting very impatiently to read all about her.*** this is a standalone story and you don’t need to have read the previous books.Roxy and Billy’s story was fantastic, I loved that their friendship evolved into 1st fake dating and then a real relationship. They were so supportive of each other and I loved their banter, spicy bits and how they progressed from friendship to lovers. I read this book in a day because I was completely hooked and didn’t want to put it down. This was easily a 5⭐️ read. The whole series has been incredible but I really, really loved Roxy and Billy.

“Heartbreaker Handoff” is the 5th book in the “varsity dads” series by Lex Martin. I am loving this series by Lex she always delivers with her fantastic stories she will always leave me craving more.Billy and Roxy are BFF’s. When Roxy discovers she’s pregnant her whole world implodes, she had no plans for pregnancy in college. When Roxy confides to Billy about her situation he steps up and supports her throughout her pregnancy even if it means pretending to be her baby daddy.I absolutely adored Billy in this story he was charming, enigmatic and I fell completely in love with him. I loved how supportive he was with Roxy and I loved how they both grew as a couple. This story covers topics about new parenthood and adapting to life as new parents which I really related to and I know a lot of readers will really relate to this book.I can’t recommend this story enough and I’m throughly looking forward to reading the next book in the series.HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDFIVE STARS 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

4.5 stars rounded upI’m so glad I picked this series up because I’m loving it. I had wanted Roxy to pick Billy in Second down darling so I’m happy she finally pulled her head out of her butt😂😂Billy stepped up big time for Roxy. From best friend to support system to stand in dad he was there every step of the way. There was a third act conflict which I am not a fan of but the way Lex Martin handled it worked really well. In reality, it is the exact kind of situation that happens everyday to new parents so lent the story authenticity.My takeaway from this read was firstly how enjoyable it was, and secondly I need to find a baby and get me some snuggles.
