Q: How do you tell when you need to replace it?

You should have a humidity indicator card located next to your desiccants. When the humidity rises beyond your acceptable level, you should recharge or replace your desiccant packs. Red Rock Desiccants ships a free humidity indicator card with each shipment.

Q: How long does one packet last?? Hours/days/weeks???

It depends on ambient humidity conditions outside the safe, how often you open the safe, how tight the safe seals are, if the safe itself is saturated with moisture and how damp the contents of the safe are to begin with. With desiccants packs this small it is recommended that the safe and its contents be at the wanted humidity levels before using packs. These packs are sufficient to maintain humidity levels in a small safe but will become quickly saturated if the safe or its contents are damp to begin with. The packs can be recharged in a convection oven multiple times but be aware that if the packs can "see" a red hot oven element, the Tyvek package will melt. Shading packs with aluminum foil which does not touch packs may help prevent melting.

Q: Does clay dust leak out from tyvek pouch?

The bags are made of Dupont Tyvek which allows water vapor to penetrate into the desiccant but prevents the clay desiccant from leaking out. These bags are non-dusting and very tough. For more information see the Wikipedia article on Tyvek.
