Prayerful Doodling: Inspiring Playful Ways to Listen & Respond to God Paperback – February 20, 2018

I have long been a fan of Valerie Sjodin's art. The first time I came across her work was in a Somerset Studio publication. Her drawings are detailed and colorful. Her work fairly glows from the page. I belong to a Facebook Group - Living Your Word of the Year, of which Valerie is one of the hosts. Through this group I have been encouraged by Valerie's helpful messages. I purchased Prayerful Doodling because it would allow me to get more familiar with her style, but it is so much more than that. This book is a powerful meditation tool. It covers techniques, while at the same time guiding the reader towards a more prayerful life, enhanced by coloring Valerie's drawings and doodling ones of your own. I downloaded the music she recommended and have used it while working in my book. It is a peaceful and joyous pastime during challenging times (COVID, racial unrest, riots, etc.).

Bible journal and always struggled with doodling. No more with this wonderful book. The author also covers using Prismacolor colored pencils. The book has wonderful instructions, places to practice and beautiful drawings to color in. Then, there is the author's approach to spending time with God and finding your own unique way of approaching communication with God that also involves the visual. Just a wonderful book.

I love this book. Probably because the topic is near and dear to me. I've been teaching art journaling as a form of worship to groups from ages 9 and up for a few years now. The subject matter is extensive and the write ups for the art examples shown are very insightful and meaningful. The art work and doodling is so beautiful and inspiring but doesn't make me feel like I could never be that good. It just inspires me to try more and be better. There are also several step-by-step pages which I found useful for drawing mandalas and project ideas.

Just received this book and read it through cover to cover. I have been a mixed-media artist for 11 years and Prayerful Doodling, along with Valerie's coloring books and workshops have met a spiritual need for me to use my skills for the glory of our Lord and others. This book is a very practical and beautiful step-by-step prayerful workbook that helps the reader utilize personal imagery and color in such a way that illuminates spiritual truths and deepens our walk with our Savior. I highly recommend this book to anyone!

Prayerful Doodling is not only beautiful and instructive, but it is joyful. I especially like the step-by-step process since I am not a trained artist and want some lovely results. The book is so encouraging and mentors the reader (or budding artist) into a gentle stretching and "you can do it" with the techniques given. I love just sitting with the book and pondering the images Valerie created out of her prayerful gentle heart.

I love this book. I purchased it to help me get started on learning to Bible Journal and was not disappointed. It has so much to offer, not only for teaching technique but also for inspiration and thought provoking avenues to getting to know the power of prayer. Thank you, Valerie!

This book ended up being even more than I expected. It is beautiful and colorful. Not only does it include Valerie's drawings, but it contains tutorials for doodling and different ways to pray and engage spiritually with your art. A perfect combination of spiritual formation and art technique and inspiration. I know I will use this book over and over. It's a beautiful creation in and of itself!

I haven't had time to try it yet, but I've looked at it thoroughly, and it looks really good. Can't wait to try it out. I'm not an artist, but I'm try to learn to select colors that go together. It looks like a good way to work on improving my prayer life.

Attractive presentation, good doodling ideas and information on how to develop your spiritual side too. I’ve bought about 10 carefully curated books on zen doodling and zentangle and this one comes into the keeper category unlike a lot of others researched in Dec 2019.

Valerie has produced a fabulously practical and creative workbook. It isn’t purely a colouring book like her two previous books. It has excellent expalanations, examples demonstrating 'how to' and space to make your own creative responses. You don't need to be an artist just collect your colouring pencils and go for it. Definitely well worth buying and worth the money

Doodling at it's best. So many ideas. Very good clear pictures to help you learn new ways to doodle. Good quality paper, space to have a go yourself, beautiful colour pictures. So much information. Good for individuals or to use to inspire a group.

Just received it and had to read it straight away.A beautiful practical book that skilfully combines theory with practical exercises especially loved the theory of colour. A book to treasure that will also become a personal journal on both my faith journey and my experiences of mixed media and spirituality.

I really enjoyed this book, the stickers, stencils etc are great quality. Some parts of the book are a bit 'new age' (I only recognise it as I was in that lifestyle previously) but apart from that it's fun and vibrant 😊
