You need to mount it within a few degrees of level in the first place and when 'unlocked' it will adjust the beam to perfectly level. When in the 'Locked' mode, you can tilt it any way you wish.This level helped make this wall look much more perfect than one we did in our hallway just using a tape measure.And now I see the price has dropped. Use two of these to assist in aligning a cart to a specific position. Not the intended application, but they work well.One of them broke after a month or two, and the company sent a replacement with minimal fuss. It is reassuring to see a company that will stand behind their products.A minor complaint is that the power button is stiff, and can cause the alignment of the laser to be compromised when turning it on and off. For our abnormal use, where we want alignment to stay positioned between power cycles, this isn't ideal.

This laser level has all the features most users will ever need, as it does a perfect level that is right on the bubble. This level is so easy to use and makes your project(s) seem to go very fast. I used it the first day for some artwork pieces, that came in a set of three. They are all perfectly set on the wall now and it shows the beauty of the artwork itself.
