Quick read; Great graphics
Think Mark Twain with graphics. A sweet coming-of-age story that provides a well-told tale with plenty of laughs along the way. It’s humorous without being mean or condescending in its treatment of the most conservative wing of Christianity.I haven’t read many graphic novels so I can’t compare this with others, but the zany graphics are compelling. It’s a fun read; overall the experience was somewhere between a novel and a movie, leaving plenty of space for my imagination to roam.

The blend of humor, adventure, and romance
The summary of this graphic novel sounded very intriguing so I checked it out and I wasn’t disappointed. While I didn’t read the book, I don’t feel like I missed out on something. The art is wonderful and the story is interesting, funny, and fast-paced. I can see how it can be controversial for some very religious readers, but I found it imaginative and not offensive at all. The blend of humor, adventure, and romance, combined with a spiritual quest, makes for an engaging and entertaining read that appeals to a wide audience. Tobias Henry, the preacher's son, is a rich character and I enjoyed following him through his adventures. I don’t know if there is something more in the book or if there are parts missing here, maybe some more character development, but nevertheless, it’s an enjoyable graphic novel. Check it out!

Visually Appealing
"The Dirty Parts of the Bible: A Graphic Novel" attempts an ambitious retelling of the ancient story of Tobias. While the idea of blending biblical narrative with American folklore sounds intriguing, the execution falls somewhat flat. However, the humor often feels forced and the plot meanders without fully engaging the reader.Illustrations by Tina Ritchie add a visual appeal, but they don't fully compensate for the novel's erratic pacing and lack of depth in character development. While the story aims for a lighthearted tone, it struggles to find a balance between irreverence and meaningful narrative, leaving it feeling somewhat disjointed and underwhelming.

Joyful inspiration
What a rare experience it was to read this great graphic novel. The timing was right for me too as I had just retired to my home State of Texas. I still wonder how it landed on my recommendation list, but glad it did. There is plenty of comedy mixed in with a touching "coming of age" story with a little something for everyone who gives it a chance. Best read of the year.
