A friend of mine and our boys started kayaking over the summer together. For his birthday I wanted to give something practical and this was a perfect fit. First, great price, didn't hurt my wallet. I got a dry bag instead of a gift bag and the paddle broken down, fit perfectly inside the dry bag. Once he opened it, it took an easy 2 step process to expand it, making it a perfect emergency/extra paddle.

The collapsible paddle was wonderful for the dingy. It paddles strong and well for a compact paddle. The extensions did slip a little when I put 200lbs of pressure downward, but they never slipped when paddling. Easy to use, light weight, and performed well.

First time I extended it and tried to lock it open, the plastic ring that tightens down immediately cracked and will no longer stay open. I'm not even a very strong human, and I especially don't have strong hands, I just pulled it out of the bag and was testing it before needing to use it on a river.Edit: I have been in contact with Oceanborad, the manufacturer. They sent me a replacement item, and I figured it was appropriate to edit my review. While this paddle still doesn't lock very well, this one at least didn't crack, and they were very insistent on making sure I had received a functional product :)

Good, sturdy units with thick paddles and collapsable storage. Very pleased, especially for our two and single person River Run floats. For those units, the paddle handle does slip into the float handholds so as to not be easily knocked overboard.

Avoid these things. I’m fairly strong and I had a hard time extending and collapsing these on the first use little own when a bit of sand got in them. I bought them a for emergency use for wife and kids. They couldn’t extend them.

For the price they're good recreational paddles. I bought them for tubing leisurely down the river. Nice and light, made of thick plastic so doesn't seem like they're going to break like other cheap paddles. However it loses stars because one of the two paddles gives trouble locking the handle into place. One does it real easy when you extend and twist it, the other one seems to not like locking in. Once in a while you can get it locked and other times it slips out of the locked position when you put it in the water.
