Green GenieFilter, 24000 Litre

had trouble with pond 1000gallons since we inherited on a house move 14 years ago!Spent over a £1000 trying to get it to display the fish for our and my grandchildren's benefit.Some success on occasions, tried a number of filters, pumps, new sheets, pro clean out etc etc.However saw the green genie on Amazon with a 25 uv bulb and bought on an impulse together with a new pump!The 24000 is bigger than my pond warrants, but it works, pond took a week to settle then had a grand switch on of the lamp and three days later I was able to count the number of fish l had and what colour they were.So far so good. Electrical lead too short, inlet connection difficult with no instructions on whether the fitting should be in or out of the lid.

Bought to replace a Green Genie 12500 that had worked for a few years but struggled to keep my 10,000l pond clear during the summer. Hence upgrade to the Green Genie 24000. BIG MISTAKE.Even with just my original 6,500lph pump the filter overflowed, the water just couldn't flow out quickly enough. It turns out that filters of this type are meant to return water directly to the pond using the rigid PVC outflow pipes, whereas my pond was using a pair of 5m 38mm hoses attached to the PCV outflows. For some reason, this worked ok with the GG12500 but not so with the GG24000, maybe because the larger spray bar offered less resistance so my pump was working more efficiently.The only way I could get the GG24000 not to overflow was to limit the water entering the filter by using the 'Vari-Flow' on the inlet, leaving me in a worse position than before (the idea was to get more water flowing through the filter per hour, not less!).I called the seller, they couldn't think why the filter wasn't emptying fast enough - the outflow tubes shouldn't be an issue as long as the water is always running downhill. Sadly they couldn't offer a solution. Nor could they offer me a return and refund as it was now a used item. So I was £170 out of pocket.So be wary of buying this kind of filter unless you're sure that it will work with your pond (without the benefit of trying it first!).I'm now using a pressurised filter, All Pond Solutions PFC-20000, with an All Pond Solutions AquaEco 8000 pump. This filter/pump combo cleared my pond in 4 days and is absolutely brilliant. Really wish I'd gone for it in the first place!

Had the 24000 model for about 10 years now and had a 6000 model prior to this. Still in shed not needed anymore.The 24000 keeps my smallest pond clear although it's ott for the size of the pond which is only about 1,000 galls.If I was looking for fault I'd have to say the lid electrics are prone to becoming damp and the bulb changing each year can be a bit of a pain even after 10 years, and ensuring the rubber rings are secure on the tube is paramount.

GREAT WORK S A TRIT

Somewhat surprised at the mean short length of mains cable! for the uv light i had to replace the supplied one with a longer one. I am glad i did! i found that the electrical component inside the lid was only secured at one end!. The other end was flapping about the plastic retaining button was missing.. After sorting out those issues it is now up and running seems to be working ok, i have not yet checked the uv light. Frankly it seems a lot of money for what you get we will see how things go.
