Not good for thick calves
The canvas make up of these jikatatabi is extremely sturdy and well made! I wore these two days straight in DC, having the equivalent steps of 10 miles each day! The rubber sole is very durable but I could see that my walking style made the adhesive at the toes a little unhappy. It’s not coming apart but I can see the sheen more than I did fresh out of the box. While the tabs have quite a few places to slot into, I couldn’t get them set too far above my ankle, even when putting them on right at the beginning of the day with no swelling. My calves are pretty thick it seems and they would not close all the way up to the shin as they should. Oh well! I had my jinbei pants to cover the lack of coverage from the boots and to keep the extra from flopping around during the day in them. Please please PLEASE P L E A S E get inserts for these boots if you have flat feet, low arches, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, or general foot pain after being on your feet more than an hour. I wouldn’t have made it 10+ hours in these boots without it. There is absolutely no support.TLDR; great quality, well made, not good for thick calves, no support.

The Size is Important
I generally pick a size it’s a little bit large for me, but that’s not a good approach for these shoes. The latching system really requires a good fit, or they come out with some strain.Granted, I took these out hiking the first day I got them. I abused them pretty harshly and they stood up pretty well. My only complaints are that I picked the wrong size, and that the sole is a bit then. I’m picking up a set of insoles that I hope will fix that problem.Edit: Yes, the insoles made a HUGE difference! These are now my second favorite shoes, and I wear them all the time! At some point I will need to add another line of loops in order to make them fit perfectly, but so far I am very happy with them.

Worked
I went by the sizing chart, and went down a half size from my regular shoe size (as that’s what the chart said). They were/are way too big for me, but I had to use them anyway. The toe to end was over the width of my thumb. I am not sure I even got the size I ordered. Ended up wearing 2 pairs of socks, just to not slide during my taiko. The tabs held decently, but I have skinny legs.

Not bad at all
I wish I knew you needed to find a way to close up the back of the shoes. The product isn’t like zipper or buttons. They have a weird way of closing up the shoe that didn’t work for me. Some kind of string, zipper or Velcro would have been jus perfect for these shoes or even elastic so when u slip the shoe on it snugs back to your leg.

Must buy
Absolutely love these, fits perfectly and a major conversation piece. Also must say they are extremely comfortable definitely would suggest a pair for anyone who was a classy yet functional shoe. Would definitely go for another pair

Comfortable and Aerated!
Amazingly comfortable. The fasteners on the side of the Jikatabi are such a nice touch and really add to the overall support of the boots themselves. I have done a few tests and I noticed that even with running, my feet stayed pretty comfy tempered without getting too hot but has just enough insulation to keep the cold to at least a steady temperature. The soles on the bottom are rigid but also soft for flexibility without sacrificing grip. All-in-all the sizes are true to size and the overall design and feel are great. Definitely recommend.

No support at all but it's a wonderful show! Properly sized!
I measured my foot with a sock on, and it measured 28cm. This shoe is almost skin tight, which is comfortable. It is 2 sizes smaller in US sizes than I normally order (I usually order size 12, this would be a size 10). There is no support whatsoever, it is a flat shoe, and that's what I was looking for. I'm surprised at how comfortable this is though and, it's perfect for the samurai costume I'm working on.

but once they're in they're good. I got a size too big but it ...
Easliy the coolest shoes I own. They have little tabs all the way up the inside side of the shoes to close them. Think button fly jeans. They're a bit of a pain to do up, but once they're in they're good.I got a size too big but it doesn't impede or detract from them.great buy.

Awful, defective and they are charging more to return, they should pay or send a proper product!!!
This is defective. The right heel stitching is too low and the whole shoe slips like a sandal while the left boot is fine. I would return them but they are charging me to ship back a defective product. DO NOT RISK BUYING IF DEFECTIVE OR NOT FITTING, YOU WONT GET YOUR MONEY BACK!!! I feel cheated.
