Excellent Classroom Management Program
I have been teaching for about five years now. Although, I have tried various programs with some success, none of them has given me the results that this one has. Even my noisiest class has learned some self-control and structure through the use of this program. Would you believe it? When it is silent time, my students are actually silent! The book stresses creating clear classroom rules and then displaying guidelines to go along with the rules that show students exactly how to behave. On top of that, the book helps you decide if you need a low, medium or high structure classroom and gives suggestions on seating, guidelines and rules based upon the structure type. There are forms to help you track misbehaviors so that when you are conferencing with a student or parent, you actually have a leg to stand on and a way to help correct them. Positive feedback is stressed.I have never been so happy!

Great classroom management
This was an excellent resource for my classroom management plan. I teach 6-12th grade and found it invaluable. It was time consuming, but the work was worth it. I know it says K-9, but I was able to adapt it for my high school classes, also. The structure it gave me and the paper trail was also useful in my portfolio and in interviews with other positions. I recommend if you want an in-depth approach to helping you think out your classroom management techniques, even if you are an experienced teacher. Very thorough.

Great Classroom Management Resource!
This (or its latest edition)is a great resource for any teacher who wants to maximize his/her instructional time and minimize the down time that comes from dealing with off-task or inappropriate student behaviors. Sprick's work complements the 21st Century Classroom initiatives and provides the flexibility and latitude to make it work in any elementary or secondary classroom.

Very helpful!
This is an amazing book! My school is implementing this system this fall so I decided to do some prereading. I wish I had this book as a first year teacher! Many of the suggestions are some that I have already learned through teaching experience, but this was still a great review before school started. The new stuff, including the actual CHAMPS system, sounds like a great way to manage a classroom. I'm excited to try it out!

More helpful than Harry Wong's book (which I love)
This book was worth every penny. Teachers are always told to "teach students your expectations", but are never shown exactly how to do this. Sprick has developed a simple template called CHAMPs that teachers can use to explicitly convey their expectations. I plan to give each student a folder in which to keep their completed worksheets. In additon, Sprink discusses how to manage a difficult class, and gives specific ideas. Harry Wongs's philosophy is that when you "teach" expectations (not explaining how to do this), problem behavior is eliminated. Sprink understands that this is not always true. He frames misbehavior in a unique way, calling it "data finding". Some students require more data than others before deciding that you mean what you say. How wonderful for him not to blame the teacher! The book also discusses specific procedures geared towards the difficult class. I have been teaching for 14 years, and Harry Wong's book has always been my main reference guide, but I feel much more confident as the new school year approaches.

Excellent book!
I had taken the all day course with Dr. Sprick and already have the book. I bought this one for my wife who is entering the teaching profession as well. This approach to behavior management has saved many a teacher who was looking at a "development plan" due to class management issues. Have class management problems? This book will be your behavior "bible".Mike

Very helpful for preparing for students who need a lot of structure.
Gives you the tools to really organize your procedures so you can teach your subject. Helped me think about things I tend to take for granted.
