Hardy is, bar none, the best English writer. Jude the Obscure is my favorite novel to date. Hardy's prose, and his deep discriptiveness is beautiful. He tells a story you "feel" not just read.

This is a beautiful set of books. I agree with others who said they are more for decoration and not for actually reading. The print is much too small.

Thomas Hardy had a knack for creating interesting characters and stories. Also, the endings are not always what you might expect (standard happy endings), which makes him a lot more interesting to read than most authors.Excellent reading!

This is a beautiful book set. I have them mainly for display since I have heard that the covers' images get worn easily and removing the sticker causes some of it to rub off. I was happy to see that 2 of the books had no sticker but instead had a sleeve with the book information. Hope that Penguin gets rid of the stickers for good, especially for collector books.

Beautiful setThe stickers peeled off easily with no damage to the books or box.I especially like that each volume has not just an introduction but a history of the text.The print is small but at my age most print is small, so I will adjust accordingly.

Product as new and packaged well

I downloaded this work to my Kindle, because I recalled enjoying at least one of Hardy's novels as a teenager and it was free. However, I've tried reading a number of the novels in this book and I've abandoned them all before getting very far. The prose is good, but the author seems to spend an extraordinary amount of time on minute details, descriptions, etc., that while maybe historically significant to academics, are much too tedious for a casual reader.

I am a fan of Thomas Hardy and very pleased to have so many of his classic novels to read and enjoy.

5 stars for the content. 3 stars for ebook format.I'm on chapter 8 of Desperate Remedies (the first book) and according to my kindle I'm still on page 2...and I've been there for I don't know how many chapters now. No idea how many pages are in each book and how many I have left to read. That's my main issue.Other than that, I loved Tess and the Mayor of Casterbridge when I read them years ago, and I am really enjoying Desperate Remedies so far.

One of the best novelists. Takes a little time to famiarise with the dates language but worth the effort.
