Concise yet detailed
Has an ironically story like structure to the presentation of it's ideas. kind of like a coach massaging your shoulders as you write your story

A must have book for writers.
I now own all three of Timothy's books. I have been remiss on writing reviews for them, but I am now The third installment of these books is just as good as the first two. Timothy is very skilled and providing excellent examples to make the point he is writing about. These books are a must for any writer, from beginner to pro!

Great Book besides Misnaming Erich Remarque as Enrique the whole way through.
I’ve read all three currently released books in the series and would recommend them all. The only reason this review isn’t 5 stars is the lack of some polish in volume 3 which I found in the earlier books . The starkest example is the repeated misnaming of Erich Maria Remarque as “Enrique” Remarque. It occurs throughout the book and it really sticks out since the author has usually been careful when referencing and attributing excerpts of other works he uses to further his own, including All Quiet on the Western Front.

You Need This
I have all of Hickson’s On Writing and Worldbuilding guides. These are essential for starting writers. Hickson is an amazing analyst and he breaks things down beautifully and gives plenty of examples.

I prefered the previous books.
The mountain section felt really contrived. Touching upon really complex topics and at the end dropping "and this is how mountains affect it". I feel it took too much from the other topics forcing them to fit on the mountain subject.I am really glad that the author is a writer himself, but I prefer examples from more well known books because I have already read them or have more context. Plus, the examples from famous books are more memorable. Other than that, it's really enjoyable.

Love this series.
A great aide for learning about common problems with written media and how to avoid them. The author uses Other media as examples and explains why the topics discussed in the chapters worked or doesn't. I've been keeping up with the series since the first release and I greatly enjoy them as reference books for my own creative writing.

My nerd boyfriend loves it
I haven't read it, I got it for my boyfriend and he was acting like he'd won the lottery, so I guess it's good

Excellent Guidance and Support
Bought this book (along with the other two in the series) for a friend who loves to write, but struggles to put together a world where the story is set, and create scenes that are in their words "not cheesey".This is an excellent helpful book that is clearly formatted and detailed. It is almost like a reference guide for all things fiction writing. Want to know how to create realistic dialogue? It's on page 58. Or if you're struggling with creating a story location, this book goes into how cities and towns are created, and how their geographical location influences them. The examples given by Hickson of how these devices are used correctly (and not so well) in both famous and lesser-known examples have been invaluable. She has found it very helpful to flick through and learn about different aspects of writing, all in one place (at least in this series).Would highly recommend this book (and the series) to both writers and those who enjoy understanding the building blocks of good writing and the analysis of great works of fiction. Hickson's YouTube videos are a good introduction to these areas of writing and world-building, and the book builds on those flawlessly.

Must have book for writing
As usual, Timothy delivers a meaningful, insightful, and clearly written guide for writting. Loved his YouTube Videos and find this book to be an immensly helpful summaization of key writing principles. There's so many examples and clear guidance on how to apply his advice. Just a wealth of knowledge in here
