The Bermuda Silt Remover makes use of telescopic technology and removes debris from the bottom of your pond improving the overall health of the fish. The telescopic design enables you to pump water and debris from most depths passing it through a net bag and returning the water back to your pond. Simple to use the Silt Remover is hand operated using a push pull action. You can also attach a larger hose to the outlet and pump the dirty water to waste. The telescopic lance extends to 1.6 metres.

Great product and does exactly what it says it does
Had about 4 inches of sludge on the bottom of the pond. The rest of the water was clean and i didn't want to do a full clean out this close to winter. Didn't really want to use an electric Vac and so was looking at this product but was a bit put off by the negative reviews. The item however fitted the bill for what i wanted to do so i took the plunge and purchased it and I do not regret it as it has done the job perfectly and was very easy to use.Had a little practice in a tub of water first so i knew what i was doing and worked out a good set up which included removing the net and allowing the pumped out water to flow into a bucket. Was surprised and happy with how easy it was to pump out. Took very little effort at all. Set it up in the pond with my bucket in position and took my time. It was simple and i pumped out about 4 buckets of sludge which took no more than about 30 minutes which included topping fresh water back in the pond. The water was obviously quite murky after doing it which is to be expected. Next morning it had all settled nicely and it had removed a good 3 inches of sludge out in the first attempt. Didn't take any more out as i wanted a little left on the bottom for the winter period. It is stored away now cleaned and ready for when i need it again.I think it is a safe bet that a lot of the negative reviews on this are from people that are using it incorrectly or haven't got the patience. It worked perfectly and exactly as described for me and thus i recommend it.

Good device but must be treated correctly
Arrived fast. Okay, it is a bit Heath Robinson but it works well. Clearly it will fail if not treated with certain respect. There are flimsy parts which are bound to be vulnerable to heavy handed usage. Also, if you suck up lots of silt with each action, the bag quickly clogs. I found it easy to slip the bag off and rinse it in a bucket of clean water after 4-5 heavy extractions. In summary, it is what it is, a simple mechanical extraction device which is good value for money and will work well if used with consideration.

A worthwhile bargain - excellent :)
A few mixed reviews but I was buying this with a gift voucher so I figured if it wasn't any good, I wasn't wasting my own cash. Well, I didn't waste my voucher either. This was superb. I only have a smallish pond - I would imagine this would be good on a small to medium pond.I like the fact it isn't electric as that means not much can go wrong. All you do is pump the handle which sucks the water up and out the back, through the filter bag. It catches gravel and sludge and the soil from the bottom really effectively. After just a few pumps my bag was full - I didn't realise there was that much at the bottom of my pond! The one thing I would say is it makes your pond quite cloudy as when the water comes out the back and back into the pond it disturbs it. One way round this (which I will probably do next time) is to catch the water in a bucket - you could then let it settle and pour it back in gently. I can't rate this product highly enough - finally an easy way to clear out my pond!!!!!

It used to pump.............now it just sucks !
The Bermuda silt remover is one of those items that is actually quite a good idea. I am sure that a lot of potential purchasers would be attracted to a simple mechanical device for the removal of pond sludge. You don't have to worry about cables and the complexities of using an electrical pond vacuum cleaner. And for an hour it actually worked............The device is let down by poor build quality. I should have foreseen what was to come when it turned up in the post slightly damaged. The final blow happened after using it for an hour when it literally snapped in half. The Bermuda silt remover is a nice concept. The reality is hard to recommend.

It Needs A Waste Hose
I've tried it the once and it works pretty well in removing mucky water and silt from the pond bed. The problem is with the bag, which is pretty useless. A waste hose is required, which should dramatically improve the usefulness of this product. I asked the supplier if he could provide me with a suitable sized hose but, whilst he agreed it would be a good idea (!), he couldn't provide anything. I've not since had any luck in finding the correct size waste hose anywhere - including on Amazon. If and when I do find something, I'll use the product again - but not until then.

Basically does what it's meant to do (plus a suggestion to improve it yourself)
Seems reviews on this are at both ends of the spectrum. At its core the principle is simple I.e. it works like one of those old fashioned water pumps with the long handles - you suck water up and it comes out of the spout. This does this very well. The netting is meant to catch the debris and silt. This is where the problem lies in that the net will catch largish debris such as leaves and roots but the silt goes straight through it. Also the draw cord which keeps the net on the spout is not very strong . However all is not lost on the silt front. I found that a ladies pop sock inserted in the net with its open end placed over the spout works brilliantly with regards to silt! It lets water through but catches the silt. It is a long and fairly laborious process but does work. At the end of the day this is a cheap(ish) product for people like me who don't want pay more for a pond vacuum.

OK once I got the hang of it
I wanted this for a 60 gallon water tank that I keep gold fish in. I can't imagine using it in a pond unless it was a very small 'plastic' pond. (In my own wildlife pond I would never use any vacuum or pump because it would suck up all the creatures living in the mud.)It's too bad it comes with no instructions - and so takes a couple of goes before you understand it discharges on the upstroke. I found it quite tricky to hold it in such a way that it didn't discharge straight back into the tank. But now I know it works like a stirrup pump I think it will be handy when I do a partial water change. I can pump the water from the silty bottom of the tank instead of just bailing it out.Like many other reviewers I removed the filter bag.The pump does feel sturdy so I hope it will last well.
