Special Characters
I have 3 Night Owl Systems and wanted to add a stand alone camera for a special room in my home, that I can't get a wired camera too. Unfortunately it will not connect to my network, WHY, because my password to my network has special characters in it. Most providers will not allow you a password without special characters. I'm returning this camera and purchasing another brand.

Great indoor security camera once you set it up
I'll break this down via Pros and Cons:PROS:- Very small, very light.- Powered by a tiny (included) 0.5W USB power adapter, but you can use your own.- Ball and socket style mount allows for mounting anywhere (can also just free stand and it comes OFF the mount so it's just a little cube that you can place in tight spots).- Once you get it going, the service is free - via the Night Owl app (iOS, Android), you can keep an eye on things from anywhere you have a data connection. There's no charge for this if you opt for local storage.- Save activity on microSD. Supports up to 128GB.- Low or High res stream in case you want to keep bandwidth use to a minimum or prefer a sharper image.- it's a TWO pack - place one in each corner of a room and it's wide enough an angle to catch the whole place.- Motion based capture (via the Night Owl app).- Live screen shots saved to your phone camera roll (via Night Owl app).CONS:- It was quite the issue to set it up at first. The instructions aren't intuitive. That said, there's a QR code you can scan to get more detailed instructions. I recommend it.- There's NO charge for streaming over the internet once you create an account. While that is a positive, I'm wondering how Night Owl uses the video captured (I will read through the terms later - there's a lot to go over).- The Night Owl app is very buggy. This didn't help with initial setup. The progress wheel just keeps spinning, even after the camera is set up correctly leading to confusion. Hope they fix it in later iterations.- The camera has a Micro-USB jack, not USB-C. That said, you *can* use an adapter as long as you have the physical clearance where you choose to place the device.- it's not a "night vision" camera. This is not a major problem as it's not advertised as one. So, just mentioning it.All in all, this is a good value for the money. You get TWO security cameras and when placed in corners of a room, you cover the whole room. When setting up, I recommend you switch your WiFi connection to 2.4Ghz if you are using 5Ghz. It's not a huge issue but some routers may work better if both the phone and camera are on 2.4 (the camera will use 2.4Ghz). These days, the SSID usually has a "-5G" suffix to tell you what freq it uses. When you plug the camera in and open the Night Owl app, the camera (when power indicator's fast blinking), will actually create its OWN WiFi with an SSID that matches the Camera serial number. When you scan the QR code of the camera via the app, it will ask to join that network. Don't freak out - join the network and the app will connect to the camera and then list out all the available 2.4Ghz SSID's pick the proper one, put your router password in and it should add the camera.Keep these handy:- Your SSID (both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz).- The password you use for WiFi.- A phone SIM ejection tool or a paperclip or toothpick (in case you need to reset the camera and start over).

adequate video but flaky set-up and performance
I got this set of two cameras because I wanted a way to set up motion detection and recording to an sd card for various schedules when I'm away. I want to avoid cameras that require a monthly subscription ad cloud storage. So the good news is that these cameras allow me to record to a micro SD card. That, and the video quality, motion tracking, and recording seem to work adequately.Downsides include lack of clear messaging, like during setup it said it lost connection but didn't indicate whether it was automatically retrying, what I needed to do, etc. Scheduling is a miss in that it limits me to 3 schedules but then won't allow me to set up a schedule that crosses midnight, i.e. if I want a schedule from 11pm-8am, I have to set up 11-11:59pm and 12-8am and then I've only got one scheduling slot left. After setting up my first schedule, it did not take effect during the next time the start time rolled around so still figuring that out.Totally unclear what "edit camera" does: when I select that option, nothing happens and there's nothing to edit.Another thing to note: this camera and others I've tried each have their own app and those apps have their own rating systems and I haven't found a way to investigate those apps before getting the cameras. In this case, the corresponding app has a rating of 2.1 out of 5 stars. In fairness, I haven't seen a highly rated app for any of the cameras I've tried. My search for a solution continues...

Simple and effective
We have teenagers at home as well as a home bar. The kids are well-behaved, but we wanted a camera to keep tabs on things. The Night Owl was easy to setup and works perfectly. I had to reset the camera once during the initial setup process, but it's mostly automatic using the Night Owl app. I'd like a little more flexibility with adjusting alert triggers (I've been getting alerts as the light changes at dusk and dawn), but it's also possible that the app has that functionality and I just haven't explored enough yet. This is a great value for a simple security camera.
