Strong White Shoyu
The Haku Truffle White Shoyu has a nice, light color and a distinct truffle oil aroma. The umami flavor is very strong, so a little goes a long way. The soy taste is subtle but still quite salty and I would not compare this to regular soy sauce because this flavor is nothing like it.I find the flavor intensity a bit overwhelming for use as a dipping sauce unless diluted or used sparingly, just a drop is good enough for me. However, it works wonderfully when added to dishes like fried rice, where it blends into the overall flavor.Overall, the Haku Truffle Shoyu is good but very potent, making it best suited for use in small amounts.

Very strong truffle flavor and aroma. Goes well with rice, vegetables, etc. Use sparingly.
Having never tried this unique flavor combination before, I was really impressed by how strong the aroma of truffles was emanating from the bottle before opening it and more so after opening it. Since we weren't really familiar as to how to use this or how much and obviously much of this is of personal preference as to flavoring, we found it best when used sparingly so it's not too overpowering with truffle taste, on various rice dishes, in ramen and udon noodles, as well as with various green leafy vegetables. We weren't sure about using it as a dip for dumplings or sushi as we thought the truffle taste was over whelming when used as such, but after adding some water to dilute it down as a dip, it was much more enjoyable to us.That said, this HAKU truffle White Shoyu Naturally light amber sauce is definitely something to try and being it's so versatile as it goes well with many dishes as I had mentioned earlier. Would definitely recommend to others but also wish perhaps a smaller bottle at a lower price was offered to allow folks to somewhat sample it's use before fully investing in a larger bottle should they want to continue using it.

Noooo.
Let me preface this by saying that I do realize this Haku white truffle shoyu is a high quality product. Good ingredients, traditional brewing methods, and 2 year aging tell me that this is definitely high end shoyu. That said, both my husband and I disliked it intensely. You can smell the truffles before you even get the package all the way open, despite the bottle being well sealed. When you open the bottle the smell just about knocks you over. Subtle it is not. The smell made us both feel sick. For what it's worth, the taste was not nearly as strong or as unpleasant as the smell. In fact, it tasted kind of okay to us. Unlike some other reviewers, we did not find it overly salty. We didn't think it was great, and we still like our usual brand (without truffles) better, but as long as we didn't sniff it, we were able to eat it and sort of enjoy it. But when it came time to pour more and we reached for the bottle, neither of us could do it. I have no idea what I'm going to do with the 99% of the bottle that is left, but we certainly aren't going to use it as a feature of our meal such as for a dipping sauce. I'll probably try to see if I can use it a tablespoon at a time in big pots of soup, as an umami boost, where the strong flavor and scent can get lost amongst the other flavors and scents.

A unique twist on traditional shoyu, but not for every palate
I recently had the opportunity to try this Truffle White Shoyu, which promises an intriguing combination of classic Japanese aged shoyu with the luxurious addition of truffle flavor. As someone who appreciates both traditional shoyu and the decadent taste of truffles, I was excited to see how these two flavors would meld together. The first thing I noticed was the very strong truffle aroma that wafted out of the bottle upon opening. It's clear that the makers didn't skimp on infusing the shoyu with actual truffles. When it came to taste, the truffle flavor was evne more pronounced, adding a rich and earthy depth to the shoyu. This made it quite versatile in my kitchen experiments. I found that it elevated simple dishes like roasted vegetables and added an unexpected twist to marinades. It's not limited to Japanese dishes either. However, there is a significant downside to this product - its high sodium content. While this is somewhat expected in any soy sauce, the saltiness is even more pronounced here. Luckily, the flavor is so intense that you typically don't use all that much of this Shoyu anyway. The concentration also helps to justify the price a bit more - this bottle should last a long time.On a personal note, I didn't enjoy this particular variety (the Amber flavor) with sushi! The strong truffle presence seemed to overpower the delicate flavors of the fish rather than complementing them. It may very well be an acquired taste. However, it is a a bold and innovative condiment that could be a great addition to the kitchen for those who love truffles and are open to culinary experimentation.
