Inspirational and heartwarming! A gift to be savored and shared.
“The Power of a Few Kind Words” is an insightful and well-written book that provides a template for finding more joy and connectivity in our lives. Tracey Gate’s deceptively simple challenge to readers - to consistently write notes of gratitude to acquaintances, loved ones, and even strangers – and her own story of growth from doing so every day for a year, is inspirational and heartwarming. In a world where we often find ourselves depleted and disconnected, Tracey provides an easy-to-follow road map on how to slow down and more mindfully find joy in the people around us. As Tracey’s story so clearly documents, this small act of kindness and recognition benefits the note writer as much as the recipient.Readers will be rewarded by Tracey's engaging prose and personal story but also feel empowered to add kindness and positivity to their own lives and to those around them.

Soul nourishing! Thoroughly enjoyed reliving the magic of this journey!
I thoroughly enjoyed reliving the magic of Tracey Willis Gates’ journey of creating meaningful connections in A Few Kind Words. Each chapter is a jewel as she recounts stories about the impact her handwritten notes of appreciation made to people, some she knew intimately well and other chance encounters, all shared in the context of the phases of her life. I visibly smiled, laughed, and cried as I read her stories and recollections, beginning the book with a letter to her grandson and ending with a letter to her father whose simple but deeply wise request for the gift of a few kind words, is the inspiration for the book. Tracey shares life lessons and wisdom discovered during her year-long letter writing journey recounting memories of losing both parents, including her beloved father, Buzz, who was devastatingly unable to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle at her wedding to the stress and personal health impact of dealing with the end-of-life complexities of caring for her aging mother. There is something for everyone at every age in this book. We learn through beautifully touching and sometimes hilarious stories her life-altering discovery that each person has the power, TODAY to gain and give happiness. These messages couldn’t be more appropriate in a world that feels disaffected and disconnected to each other following the isolation of the pandemic and years of divisiveness. I found myself looking forward to reading it every night because it left me feeling peace, positivity, and a feeling of control. Such a welcome change from focusing on the anxiety of daily stressors that occupy your mind at night. Each chapter ends with a gameplan and thought-provoking questions. She challenges us to see that we, as a society, represent the problem AND the solution. It is up to us to make an impact with the power at our fingertips. She initiates a call to action to step up, go analog, be intentional and make a meaningful connection via a handwritten note to someone that made you feel special, displayed an admired trait or to appreciate someone that is just simply accretive to your life. As a corporate business leader, the opportunity to further extend these valuable lessons toward building an engaged and high performing team is exciting and has the potential to be more enduring than any culture-building exercise.A Few Kind Words is soul nourishing and provides the tool set to go on your own journey of kindness!

An inspirational gem of a book
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book...Tracey's writing is clear and easy to read, her stories are heartwarming and her message is timely in our world today. Prior to reading A Few Kind Words, as one who verbally gives words of appreciation and acts of kindness on a daily basis, I did not think I would engage in writing any letters of appreciation. However, 1/2 way through, I began to compile a list of people I wanted to write to...and now that I am finished reading this book, my list is longer and I mailed two letters out today! This book is inspiring and filled with genuine warmth, caring, and positivity. We do have the power to uplift someone's day with written words of appreciation. Tracey's A Few Kind Words is a gift and a blessing to this troubled world. I would highly recommend her book.
